In
the Pre-title sequence of Tomorrow Never Dies, Douglas James was
probably on screen for more time than Pierce
Brosnan himself. Take, for example, the scene where Bond steals the
Russian Mig before the British missile triggers the Nuclear torpedo it
is carrying. The whole sequence, in which Bond is seen to take on the whole
arms bazaar by himself, was filmed with Douglas James, because Pierce Brosnan
was unavailable. Close-up shots of Pierce were added months later in the
studio. The likeness of Mr. James to Brosnan is remarkable, and many people
often confuse him for the real James Bond. "People whistle the James Bond
tune when they see me", he admits, not phesed at all by EON not wishing
to publicize the fact the Pierce Brosnan does not do all his own stunts.
As far as I know, the two have never actually met. Doug James regularly
attends James Bond themed events and corporate events dressed as 007.
