Levelwind reel NOT for Surf Casting.
How to wind in with a multiplier ?
irst of all, it should be known that the majority of the multipliers are equipped with level winding guide, kind of "2 fingers fork" which levels and distributes automatically and in a regular manner the line over all the width of the spool (see picture above).
Despite a very studied design, this mechanism slows down the exit of the line when "long distance" casting. The majority of the surfcasters thus removed it on the reels with such integrated system and, thereafter, the Manufacturers themselves produced multipliers series without this levelwind system (such reels can be actually found on the market categorized with a "CT").
Of course, because the level wind system is removed, it was necessary to return to a "manual" solution guidance.
ecause many French beginners approaching the multiplier asked me the question: "how to spool evenly on the line ?" and without entering in detail of the various positions of hands, there are 2 ways of recovering this line on a multiplier :
-1- pinched line
-2- thumb method
Faster and more explicit than a long speech, I thus propose to you to refer to the 2 mini-videos below which will show to you the 2 basic manners to handle the line when winding in.
Notes :
-1- For the very-beginnings, the "pinched line" method is most comfortable, and after some tests and some wrist inflections later... you will pass rather naturally to the "thumb guide" method.
-2- From time to time it is however necessary to pass back again to the pinching method, because it is a very good mean to check the quality of your line over its all length, the sensitivity of the fingers makes it possible to detect the smallest scratch on your line.
-3- When the line is 'free', the 'pinched line' method is the only one whiche permit to wind in the line keeping its tension load.
