Installing Wod

The first thing you should do is Download and install a Later version of WOD.  Download the zip file to a place where you will remember where it is like "my documents". When you unzip this file it must go into your weapons folder. This is located in your Quake2 folder.   The path will be C:/quake2/weapons.  If it says "Directory doesn't exist create it" while you are unzipping the file say "yes".

The Hook

Once you have a  version of WOD installed you can "Bind The Hook" The readme file in WOD somewhat explains how to do this but i will explain it here as well. The directions tell you to use the g key for the hook but it doesn't tell you that grenades are already on the g key. If you wish to use the keys g, f and r for the hook like it explains in the readme file you should first move grenades off g key by typing this.        bind z "use grenades"                           Hit enter after typing the command. You can use  a different key other than z if you wish.      Then bind the hook as follows hitting enter after each command

bind g +hook

bind r +shrink

bind f +grow

G shoots out the hook. R retracts it and f  will let out more slack if your still hooked to something.

Binding The Hook To Your Mouse

You can set up the Hook quickly and easily if you Bind it to your mouse. Of course you must have the WOD file installed first. Then Bind the Hook to your un-used mouse keys hitting enter after you type the command.

bind mouse2 +hook

bind mouse3 +shrink

If you don't have a wheel mouse or a 3rd key you can just use mouse2 alone. In the game when you shoot the hook out continue to hold down mouse2 and it will retract the hook.

Multiple Hooks

Its Easy to shoot multiple Hooks by binding a key to this next command. I will use the x key in example.

bind x "hook action; hook action"

Hit enter after typing the command of course. Now go into a WOD game and shoot out your hook like you usually do and leave it out. Then hit the x key you bound  to shoot out more.

Binding Keys

The Readme file that comes with the WOD file explains all the commands that come with WOD. Check it out. You can also bind phrases to keys. Here are some examples of binds if you are to stupid to find the readme file. Bring down console by hitting the ~ key and remember to hit enter after each command typed.

bind d decoy

bind w scanner

bind l laser

bind p push

bind o pull

bind mouse2  +hook

bind mouse3 +shrink

bind s say You Humans all suck big time. I own you all.

If you want to bind a sentence or phrase to a key you must put the word say in front of the sentence as shown above. You may or may not be able to use a certain feature depending on what version of WOD the server is running. For instance competition weapon servers will not allow you to use scanner, laser trips or push-pull. Go to a server like DugDogs that runs version 6.04 to use all the goodies.

Easy Server Set-up

Open notepad. If you don't know where notepad is do this: Go to start, find, files and folders and type notepad. When notepad is found double click it. In notepad type this one line of text just like its written here.

quake2 +set dedicated 1 +set game weapons +exec server.cfg

Then click FILE, Save AS, at the top of note pad and call the file wod.bat. Save it to your quake2 folder not your weapons folder. Then use windows explorer or notepad and go to your quake2 folder. Open q2 folder. Change files of type to ALL FILES otherwise you cant see the one you want. Locate the dos icon called wod.bat   Thats the one you created. Right click it and either create a shortcut and drag it to the desktop or click send to desktop as shortcut. Double click this icon or your shortcut to launch the server. You should see a dos screen come up and it may take some time for it to load so don't be impatient.

You must add your server to Gamespy or whatever you use Kali etc....  At the of upper left of Gamespy  there is a button called  Add Server. Click this and type in your ip address and click OK. If your server is running it will now appear on and Gamespy or whatever service your using. You can also find your server easily by clicking on "unbound" at the left of Gamespy under Quake2.

Of course  you will want to change settings or configure your server. You can change settings like the time limit, frag limit, number of players and the name of your server. Use notepad or explorer and click on your quake2 folder, click on the weapons folder then click the server.cfg file. when changing the server name be sure to leave the quote marks at the beginning and end of the name. You can also change the map that the server starts with. In the server.cfg file find the word map and change the map thats already there to what ever you want, like q2dm1. When finished configuring the server click save at the top or your changes wont take effect. You must also restart the server for these changes to start. You are now ready to have your ass kicked by me in your new server Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Player Spikes

Installing the player spikes is basically the same as the rocket beam. Just unzip the file and put it in your q2/baseq2 folder. If you already have a pak8 change the pack number to 7. Normally you will only have packs 1 through 6 in there so you have 7 through 9 to use. If you are using the rocket beam also make sure they have different numbers. This cheat will make long black spikes project out of the players making them very easy to see. If they are standing on the other side of a wall you will actually see the spikes come through the wall so you know they are there. If you dont like it then you just simply delete the pak file from your baseq2 folder, and your back to normal.

Q2 Text Editor

You can create signs or Banners to use while playing Q2 to taunt your enemies. Once you have Downloaded the file ( if you dont know where it is type this in find. q2text14) open it and type what ever you wish to say in the four rows provided. You can learn to be more creative later making pictures or larger words  out of dots and slashes ha ha.  Then click file at the top and choose a short name for the file. Here I will use Example.cfg as my example.  Save this file to your weapons folder that of course resides in your Quake2 folder.  Now you can bind a key to execute the file while playing Q2. There are 2 ways to do this but the easiest way is to go into a game and bind the key that you want to use. I will use X key here in the example.       bind x exec example.cfg then hit enter key.    The other way is too open your config.cfg that's located in your weapons folder and write the command in yourself. Choose the key you want to use and write in the command like this     bind x "exec example.cfg" then click save at the top of notepad or explorer. That's  it  you are now ready to taunt those Human fools. Oops sorry I forgot your Human.

Speed Cheat

Basically to use this cheat, just unzip it into your quake2/baseq2 folder, then create a shortcut to it on your desktop. The thing you have to remember is that it will not work unless you have already started quake2 (in other words, quake2 has to be running when you activate it). The way I use it is I'll get into a game then press alt and tab at the same time, this will shrink q2 to the bottom of your screen, then just activate the speed cheat and youll be running light speed. With the old speed cheat you can only run twice as fast. The new speed cheat you have to pull down your console and type timescale 2 you can set timescale to 1 which is normal to timescale 5 which is superfast. If you have a voodoo card when you alt tab out of the game it will shut down q2, so you have to go to video switch to software renderer then alt tab out start the speed cheat, then get back to q2 and switch back to 3dfx. With the old speed cheat you can only use 2x speed or full bright. Full bright will light up the map. The new speed cheat will allow you to use both at the same time, but you have to type the commands in the console

Yellow Grunts

I  created the bright yellow Grunt to see all those spineless Humans who like to hide in the shadows and shoot us Bots in the Back. I took the skin called Lava which is bright yellow and placed it over the default grunt player. If you really want to get radical you can delete or move out every player in your Q2 players folder and leave only the grunt skin. This of course will be the only player you will see and everybody will be running around bright yellow. Download the skin from the downloads page. C:\Quake2\baseq2\players\male  is where you want to unzip the file to. It will say replace existing file? you say yes.
