GRIFFIN
I have been told that our branch of Griffins is connected to Lewis L. Griffin for whom Griffin, GA is named. I have read that his parents were William Griffin and Rachel Evans and grandparents Peter Griffin and Elizabeth Owens. The specific Griffin I am trying to get information on is David Griffin born about 1808 in SC. He left SC and moved to Cass Co., IL by 1847 when I can place him by a marriage license and then on the 1850 and 1860 IL census. That is all I have at this point. If anyone could place him in a Griffin Family in SC I would like to hear from you. July 2, 2001 |

NICHOLS
Just found out that my Nichols family at some time was in Laurens County (late 1700's to early 1800's) before some of the family moved to Alabama. I know this is very vague, but just wondered how much, if any research has been done on the Nichols family. My ggggrandfather was William Nichols. He had children named Charles Jay, Susan Caroline, Richard, Phillip, Robert, Mary Catharine, Osborn, and D.C., all born in Alabama. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone? July 5, 2001 |

I was wondering if anyone knew any information on the Garrett/Lumpkin connection. SANDERS
I'm trying to find the siblings of Rev Moses sANDERS born 1742 he married Sarah HAMILTON and they both died in BANKS CO, GA. He came to GA in about 1784 he was known to have come there many times before that time on missionary trips into the NE areas and he is known to have ministered to the indians of the area, this according to information obtained from Mercer University and books written about him, after the fact. He started two churches that I am aware of in GA. Nails Creek Baptist and later Groves Level Baptist. I've been told he was in Laurens Co, SC before he came to GA so if you are aware of any siblings, please get in touch with me. The reason is, I have an ancestor who is missing any and all ancestors. His name is Elias Sanders, he was born 1775 in either NC or MD. Many have been looking for his parents/siblings etc...for a long time. We have been unable to find any records before 1800. The LDS shows a connection between Rev Moses Sanders' family and Elias but I have yet been able to find how they are linked, if they even are. Did Rev Moses Sanders have a brother named John? He might have died early and Elias just moved close to Moses. I know the line of Rev Moses Sanders and if my Elias is related, it's going to be through a sibling of Moses' or he could be the illegitimate child of Rev Moses (guessing only). Any help appreciated. DONAHOO / DONAHUE / DUNAHOO
I have been searching for the parents of my GG/F Augustus Donahoo for about 4 yrs with no success. According to the U S Census' that I have found him on, he was born in GA as were his parents. I have been told that lots of DONAHOOs came from Laurens Co, SC, so that is why I post here, hoping someone may have this name in their files and possibly know his parents. Here is what I know about my GG/Father according to Early Co and Clay Co, GA Census' reports. I first found him on the 1850 Early Co, GA Census at age 22 living in a hotel with other houses carpenters like himself. In 1851 he md. Emaline Elliot of Early Co and they had 5 children: Clemantina Donahoo, Henry Huston Donahoo [my g/f]; Wilburn Dunahoo; William Donahoo and John Hilly Dunahoo. I know the Clay Co folks spelled their names DUNAHOO, while my dad and g/dad spelled it DONAHOO. Still others in my family spell the name DONAHUE. I have found Augustus on the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Clay Co, GA Census. If anyone can offer any info or suggestions about this line of Donahoos please email me. October 3, 2001 |

Philip Duncan m: Emeline Demasius Marbut in GA. I have info on Emeline/Emily's family. 1850 DeKalb County, GA Census has a Hannah - listed with Philip and his family. An 1840 GA Census has a Hannah Duncan as HofH. Philip and Emeline were both born in SC. There is marriage listing for a Capt Joseph Duncan to Hannah -; USGenWeb Archives (P.R. Sarratt, Jr. extracts from the Charleston Observer 1776-1860). However, no place name or date included. There is a Joseph Duncan on the 1820 Laurens Co SC Census. Query: Does anyone have info on a Joseph Duncan who married a Hannah? Query: Because Philip and Emeline gave the middle name of Sims/Sim to their oldest son, Robert Sims Duncan, I am wondering if that might not have been Hannah's maiden name. Thank you, one and all, for any info that may help me in my research. I am also descended from the Duncan's of Duncan's Creek "fame," as well as, Old John Dunkin/Duncan (daughter Rachel married Henry Hilburn). GIBSON / LONG / MATHEWS
I'm looking for some information on my GGG Grandfather, Thomas Gibson Sr. who was born in South Carolina in 1802 or 1803. It's possible he was born in Laurens County because his father may have been John Gibson, brother of Allen Gibson that was married to an Anna "Sarah" Long. John Gibson was said to have lived in what was called the Barnwell District with his parents. His father's name was David. John supposedly married a Margaret Mathews and according to an 1810 census report that I haven't seen, was said to have lived in Laurens County in 1810 with his wife and children. Can anyone look into this 1810 census and tell me anything at all about what's said about this John Gibson? Is there any record of births in the very early 1800's that could help me nail down when and where Thomas Gibson was born and who his parents were? I know that by 1820 John Gibson and his family had left South Carolina for Franklin County, Tennessee. Address = Dale O'Connor 10331 Green Creek Drive Houston, Texas 77070 December 13, 2001 |

I've previously posted a query looking for any information on the Gibson family that may have been living in Laurens County, South Carolina prior to moving to Coffee, Franklin and McNairy Counties in Tennessee. All would have lived in Laurens County in what was called the Barnwell District in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Thomas was born in South Carolina in 1802 or 1803. If you have access to the internet you can look up the following URL for more information on the family in question. CASEY / GREEN / LANDERS
I am looking for info on Elisha CASEY born in Laurens Co in 1772/73. I have no idea who his parents or siblings are. A will of Zacariah GREEN was found listing Elisha CASEY as his nephew. This makes me think that somehow Elisha is desended from Abner CASEY who married a Harriet GREEN. But the closest Elisha could be is a grandson because of dates. Elisha married a Esther Landers and moved to GA. Any info on this mystery would be greatly appreciated. Address = 1229 South 150 East Danville,IN 46122 1-317-745-5486 December 21, 2001 |

HARDY
My family traces back to a Christopher Hardy or Hardie, born 10/3/1779, died 7/15/1856, married to Pamelia born 6/6/1787, died 7/15/1856, who lived in South Carolina. According to family lore Christopher Hardy’s father was killed in a “Hayes Defeat”, massacred after surrender by a British officer and his men. Our lore has Christopher Hardy’s father as James Hardy born 10/3/1719, died 1781. Christopher Hardy’s son, James Hardie told the story in 1922 to a family member who typed it. The original source is given as Mr. Hudgens the only one spared in the massacre when a Loyalist vouched for him. I would appreciate any related genealogical or historical information. E-mail me for a copy of the account at: .Frank Hardie fhardiesr@cinci.rr.com December 25, 2001 |
