I found this wonderful little book one day while browsing through the bookstore as I was looking for books on the Civil War. The name of it is "The Southern Rules" by Ellen Patrick and every Southern woman should read it. Believe me it is worth the six dollars I paid for it. The following is a small excerpt from her book just to give you a little taste of how wonderful a book it is
Make fun of her if you will. Pooh-pooh her passions if you must prove you are intellectually above it all. But never forget that Scarlett always got every single thing she ever wanted. ...What you should do is remember the basic strong points of Scarlett's character and incorporate them, in your own way, into yourself. - Always know very clearly what you want.
- Never doubt that you can have exactly what you want.
- Never doubt that you are the most tantalizing girl at the barbecue.
- Remember that men aren't everything. For the most part, they are just someone to eat barbecue with.
- Never listen to anyone who tells you that you can afford to skimp on your wardrobe, hair, or makeup.
- Take time to prepare yourself for the day. Use fancy soaps and bath salts and perfumes and powders, and hum to yourself while dressing.
- Never let anyone know how long you take to prepare for the day.
- Always have a million dates in your datebook--and even if you don't, act like you do.
- Eat like a bird in public. No matter what they say to the contrary, men are confused and unsettled by women with hearty appetities.
- If another woman gets in your way, don't hesitate to connive against her. (Just make sure you do it well.)
- Speak softly and carry a small pistol.
- In front of the mirror practice saying in a light-hearted fashion: "Fiddle-dee-dee!" It will put you in the appropriate mood of carefree girlish abandon that Southern men find so attractive. (Warning: Avoid saying fiddle-dee-dee aloud in public as people might think you're crazy.)
