HiWay 52 is a Bluegrass Band.

The band includes:

Roy Kimzey - Guitar, Bass, & Vocals

Roy is an ex-Navy man who currently works for an electronics contractor. He was actually stationed on the submarine that currently is a tourist spot here in Charleston SC. Roy is a music lover of many years, and plays solid guitar. He also sings most of the lead for HiWay 52.

Debbie Kimzey - Bass & Vocals

Debbie is a dog lover. She has a grooming business and, along with Roy, they have a cool daughter named Aubrey. Debbie sings mostly tenor, and plays the electric bass. Aubrey occasionally sits in with her guitar and sings along.

David Brown - Fiddle & Vocals

David is an outdoors kinda guy. He works in forestry for a big paper manufacturing company. David plays fiddle and has a great cross-bow technique. He can really make that thing shuffle. David also sings mostly baritone.

Melvin Cumbee - Banjo & Vocals

Melvin is a detective for one of our local police departments. He works in the homicide division as a lieutenant. Melvin has a style of banjo playing that is uniquely his. (He is also the only person I know that can talk on the phone about police business while taking a super hot break on a Bluegrass tune).

Bob Sachs - Mandolin, Fiddle, Guitar, & Vocals

Bob (that's me) is a Psychology student (and may be for at least a few more years). He also has a reputation for fixing just about anything, and playing almost every instrument in a Bluegrass band (HiWay 52 members call him "Flexible Bob"). Virginia Public Radio called him "a wizard of the mandolin".

HiWay 52 Performs mostly at Kiawah Island Resort near Charleston, SC, for public functions. The actual performance place is at Mingo Point on Kiawah. It is a beautiful place by the river and very near the ocean. Performances are part of a weekly oyster roast on Mondays from late May through August. If you are visiting the area, come on by. We love to get audiences involved in the show. Don't be surprised if you find yourself dancing or even playing with the band (I won't say what you'll be playing but it's usually lots of fun for all).
