| Smooth Jazz is
directly descended from the so-called "fusion jazz" pioneered in the late '60s
and '70's by Miles Davis. Widely criticized by traditionalists, this music brought
mass appeal to such greats as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett and Weather
Report. The best artists of this genre have solid grounding in the "traditional" jazz stylings of Duke Ellington and John Coltrane and bring a pop sensibility that make this music irresistible. Here is my favorite: |
| The Unofficial Ken Navarro Home Page |
It's been my great pleasure to have known Ken Navarro personally for the past
eighteen years, since his days as the leader of a local Washington, D.C. fusion jazz group
called Departure. Not willing to give up creative control over his music to the
major record companies, Ken formed his own label - Positive Music Records. The label
is home to more than 30 great artists ranging from mainstream jazz to pop. Ken's
albums have consistently topped Gavin's smooth jazz charts and he is a mainstay on smooth
jazz radio nationwide. You'll love Ken's playing if you like Pat Metheny, Kenny
Burrell or Kenny Dorham(!). Spurning L.A. for his eastern roots, Ken lives near
Baltimore, Maryland. The new album and video "Alive in Orlando" has been released and is now available! Visit Ken's Official Web Site. |
