Never has there been a culture in all of recorded human history that did not know of the existence of dragons. Allusions to them can be found in Babylonian, Hebrew, Greek, Chinese, Egyptian, Roman, French, Scandinavian, German, and Welsh histories, to name just a few. But what do historians tell us about dragons? The answer is, very little. And, don't think that's not just the way dragons like it. Here is a better question: What do we know about dragons? I will do my best to answer that question; first, by telling you what I have come to know about them and, secondly, to help you discover what others have written about them. Here's what I know, from my own experience, about dragons. Some dragons are malevolent, but more of them are benign. Most are reclusive, but a few, especially if they are given to self-adoration and other vanities, may appear at any time to unsuspecting humans, and they love to appear suddenly. If it were not so, we should never have heard of them, at all. But we have, haven't we! And, it's a proven fact that certain people are more inclined to see them than others. There may be one or two among you, who would not be able to see a dragon if he were virtually standing in front of you right now. If you are one of those, you might consider counseling to help you overcome your unreasonable belief in the truth of reality. If this is your problem, you are not alone. There are 73,946,211 "realistically challenged" people in the United States alone, and even more of them scattered throughout Europe, although Asians seem to be immune to the disease. But take heart, mankind may be on the verge of finding a cure for this dragon dreaded affliction, and I intend to do my part. So, won't you let me give you a lift, up, and out of the drear and drag of that world you live in, the one without dragons? |
What's that you say? You CAN see my pretty Phoenician friend (he's Phoenician, you know). Well, good for you, indeed! Let me introduce you properly then. This is Rhosas, and he does NOT mind that I called him pretty, he knows that he is! I've adopted him. Or, rather, he's adopted me, you see, because Rhosas is much older than I am, and he knew about me before I ever even heard of him. Dragons have a way of knowing things, that just... well... isn't human. Rhosas once told me that his father was a natural Rainbow Dragon, the first of his kind, hatched when the earth could be navigated only by sea, or by air. Some dragons took to the sea while others, like Rhosas' ancestors, claimed the air. The seagoing Dragons were (and still are) more reclusive, you see, and not as pretty. But they can be just as mightily fierce, as dragons are known to be, especially when they have been insulted without sufficient cause. Of course, when the sea dried up and the land appeared, many began to cross-mate, so that now there are dragons with anomalous traits, like stunted wings, or thin skin-like coverings over their eyes, or worse, Insanity! Sadly, most of them did not survive that horrible crisis. And, finally, they were forced to hide in caves to escape the foolish perpetrations of man and his quest to conquer the world. And there, you have the jist of the sorry condition of dragons today. Nowadays, they are hunted, maligned and misunderstood. That's why I decided to adopt one, and I'm glad I did. Rhosas has proven to be a loyal friend to me in every way a dragon can be, and my castle here, is the perfect home for him. He is also very good at Time Travel. In fact, I like him so well that I've decided to adopt another one, and soon, I may go back for more. When I first saw our newest arrival, she was too cute to resist. We call her Phrrr, for short, but her real name is Phrrrulya. Isn't she adorable? And she's only scorched my tunic once, so far. Now, I don't want you to think that I would deny the existence of those other dragons, the truly evil ones. I don't. You may recall that I mentioned those first. They are just as real as Rhosas and my little Phrrr, but the evil ones don't operate in the visible world, generally. They are spirits, you see, and powers and principalities, and all of the things people say about them, except for one thing. They are not dragons, not in the actual sense in which my friends are dragons. As always, they are counterfeits, who go around posing as dragons, and they work their wily wickedness, abusing the talents of the ones they impersonate. Indeed, they have given all true dragons a very bad name. In fact, dragon values and dragon traits are so important to mankind that, even from ancient times, our leaders have identified with dragons, like my Welsh ancestors did, as you can see by their national coat of arms. Well, I've made my feelings known sufficiently, I think. And now, come along with me while Rhosas teaches us a little more about Dragonkind. Follow the links below, and we'll be off in the wink of an eye, a dragon's eye, that is. |

P.S. Rhosas wants me to tell you that if you would like to learn more about adopting a dragon, all you have to do is click on him, and he will introduce you to his agent. |
