The method Cold process is a method of making soap which does not use an external heat source. For this reason, this process is often used by soapers, or home soapmakers. The mixture (mostly oils and fats) is to be stirred thoroughly, and typically within one hour starts to set so it can be poured in moulds (some soap makers speed this process by using high-speed or "stick" blenders). This is also the moment to add additives such as fragrances, herbs or colorants. Then the soap is poured into molds and allowed to "set" for several hours. The soap is hard and can be removed from the moulds after 24 to 48 hours, but it should be allowed to cure for some weeks to allow excess moisture to evaporate. For successful cold-process soapmaking, one needs to be able to measure the exact amounts of ingredientes to be used. |
