UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF THE ANIMAL'S RIGHTS
Preamble
- Considering that
Life is one, all living beings having a common origin and having
diversified in the course of the evolution of the species, - Considering
that all living beings possess natural rights, and that any animal with a
nervous system has specific rights, It is hereby proclaimed that :
Article 1º All animals are born equally before life and have the right to exist. Article 2º a) All animals have the right to be respected. b) Man, as a human species, has no right to exterminate or explore the other animals. He has de duty to put his conscience at service for other animals. c) All animals have the right to be taken seriously, protected and cared by man. Article 3º a) No animal will be submitted to cruelty. b) If the death of an animal is necessary, it must be done in an instant form, without pain nor suffering. Article 4º a) All animals belonging to a wild species have the right to be free in its terrestrial, aereal or aquatic habitat and have the right to breed. b) The privation of freedom, even if for educational causes, is against this right. Article 5º a) All animals living in a human environment, have the right to live and grow according to the pace and conditions of life and liberty of its species. b) Any modification of this pace or of these conditions, determined by man for commercial causes, is against this right. Article 6º a) Any animal chosen by man to be its partner has the right to have a life durability equal to its natural longevity. b) The abandoning of animals is a cruel and degrading act. Article 7º Every animal that work have the right to have moderate limitation of time and intensity of work, adequate food and rest. Article 8º a) Animal experimentation involving physical suffering is against the animal rights. That is true, independent from being a scientific one, a commercial one or any other kind of experimentation. b) Substitutable technics must desenvolved and used. Article 9º In the case where the animal is kept and treated for food purposes, it must be well fed and have a decent place to stay and to be transported. It also must be killed in a way it won't cause him pain or suffering. Article 10º No animal should be used for human entertainment. Animal exhibition and shows go against their dignity. Article 11º Killing an animal without necessity is called biocide. That means that it's an act agaisnt life. Article 12º a) Killing a great number of wild animals is called genocide, that is, an act against the species. b) The destruction of a natural habitat causes genocide. Article 13º a) A dead animal must be treated with respect. b) Scenes in movies or on t.v. where violence is used against animals is prohibited. It is only permitted when the scene is made to show a disrespect against the animals rights. Article 14º The animal rights must be respect that same way human rights are.
