DISEASES

A good observation of the new birds helps us to detect the appearance of a sick bird, and also to take the necessary measures to avoid any possible infection, starting quickly the bird treatment.

Generally, when the bird is sick, presents one of the following symptoms:

  • - It is listless

  • - It doesn’t move from the perches or the bottom of the cage

  • - The plumage is bristly

  • - It sleeps a lot

  • - Loss of strength and flying capacity.

  • - It does not eat

  • - It is gloomy

  • - It presents laboured breathing

  • - It stays with the eyes half-open.

  • - Etc.

When a bird presents symptoms of sickness, the first measure to take is to isolate it in a hospital cage with a temperature around 28ºC, because sick birds lose its capacity of keeping its corporal temperature. It is necessary to provide the bird with a source of heat, for instance a lamp, at a distance enough not to burn the bird. The place where we set it must be as quiet as possible for not stressing the bird.
