PASTRIES
There are two types of breeding pastry. Maintenance pastry and breeding pastry, there is a great difference between the percentages of proteins from one to another. Breeding pastry has a higher percentage of proteins for a better chicks feeding. These pastries can be also dry or wet. My experience as a breeder, and as other breeders say, tells me that the best is the wet one. You can also use dry pastries wetting them with grated carrot or with green millet. This one mentioned is specially appreciated by lovebirds and constitutes a very good complement for the chicks. We have to give preference to pastries with packing date and expiry date, since pastries deteriorate with a continuous contact with the air. This is the reason why pastries must be given in small quantities and daily removed.
FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
Fruits and legumes constitute a very good complement to the lovebird’s diet, and it is nice to see how they appreciate this kind of food. The most appreciated fruits are: apple, orange, banana and guava. The most appreciated vegetables are: Galician cabbage, white cabbage, fleshy leaf, spinach, jilo, carrot, cress, green millet, chicory and chuchu. Both fruits and legumes must be given in the morning and removed in the evening because they deteriorate quickly and attract insects, mainly in summer.
