Preparation of the birds for the breeding After having bought the birds, I advice to wait one month at least to start with the breeding. During this time it is necessary to delouse them and after this give them a vitamin complex that will compensate the delouse treatment. This period of time is also useful to see if any of the birds bought is sick. This will avoid bad things and will improve the quality of the chicks. You can use this time, if it is possible, to leave the birds in an aviary to form pairs.
Nestboxes There are several kinds of nestboxes with different sizes. I prefer large nests, because besides of being more spacious, let the chicks not to step on each other, having the advantage of letting a better dissipation of the heat provoked by the breeding of the chicks; or an extreme humidity and heat due to the shortness of the nest. This fact is extremely important because a bird in this situation starts to dehydrate.
This dehydration has as a consequence a bad osseous and muscular formation, having the birds a rachitic aspect. I even advice to do holes in the upper lateral parts of the nest for a better dissipation of the heat.
