For every Hero, there is a Villan. For the greatest of Hero's, there are the worst of Villans. For every saviour, there is a nemesis. Superman. The Greatest Hero of All Time. The Last Son of Krypton. The Man of Steel. He is without a doubt the original, and the greatest Superhero of all time. Lex Luthor, is the Arch-Nemesis to this Hero. He doesn't have super-powers of any kind. He is an average man. Like you or I.
So now you ask yourself, How can an average man defy the most powerful being on the planet?
It is true, that Luthor has no super-powers, but He has something almost as advanced as Superman's ... His Mind! He is the most diabolical Genius on the planet. Some people say the greatest criminal in history. He has an un-dying will for greed & power, and he will stop at nothing to gain what it is that he wants. Lex Luthor has gone through many changes since his introduction all those years ago in the Superman comic books.
He started off as A Criminal Genius, being constantly beaten by superman in every attempt he made to defy the man of steel and take what he wanted. His un-dying persuit of the destruction of Superman took Luthor almost to the point of madness, and (it has been said in many differant ways) that Superman is responsible for Luthor being bald. There were a few reasons for this that come to mind, but 2 Stand out amongst the rest.

1 - Luthor For many years wore a Kryptonite Ring, which Ended up giving Him an acute case of Kryptonite Radiation Poisoning, which in effect - Sent him bald.

2 - As a young science student, There was a fire in Luthors laboratory. Superboy luckily came to the rescue and blew the fire out with his super-lungs, but by accident, he caused chemicals to spill, and the fumes made luthors hair fall out - Never to grow back (You can find a picture of this in the Art Gallery)

But this Version of Luthor was not enough. DC comics and the writers of the series felt that this was not a big enough challenge for an invulnerable being such as Superman. I guess you could say - There was simply not enough Kryptonite on Earth for Luthor to use.
So they made Luthor one of the most powerful and influential men on the Planet. High atop Lex-Corp tower in Metropolis, Luthor had stocks in everything from The Space Program, to the Transit system, and in effect, Lex Luthor finaly gained control over the majority of Metropolis. He had the money and resources to have whatever he wanted, except the one thing which he could not -
The Death Of Superman.
Luthor could not kill him, so in effect he decided that if he could not beat him - he would outsmart him. Shortly before the year 2000, Lex Luthor Ran for President of the United States of America... And WON! Taking his seat in the oval office, Luthor finaly had the Man of Steel right where he wanted him.

In closing, Lex Luthor is not ALL bad. He has a generous side to those he likes, and he can actualy be a nice person when he wants. He simply sees himself above all other Mortal men, and in doing this, immortalises himself as the leader of all Mankind. He despises Superman so, Because he sees him as 'an alien' who does not belong on Earth.

We can be sure to see many many more adventures of Luthor & Superman throughout the years, and If any major Changes are made to Luthors character, I will be sure to Post them here.
