Near The End

My, but my HTML is rusty...

Just in case there's anyone still out there reading this in the hope of an update after 4 and 1/2 years - here it is.

Yahoo is shutting down free Geocities sites so this monument to a time before Facebook, My Spazz, Youtube and Twitter will cease to be on October 26.

One of the major things I wanted to do with this site, but never had the time or resources was to present show highlights. The 3RRR website has been doing this wonderfully well for the last couple of years now in ways I couldn't have dreamt of back when this was started in 1997. Here's the link on the off chance you don't know what I'm talking about - link.

To the likes of O'Neil, Hughes, Elliott, O'Toole, Hatzis, Young, Wilson, Pang, Samson, Whanell, Shelton, Hardy, McCulloch, Safran, Creep, and Langbroek (and loads of people I've missed) who've all gone on to great success in their chosen fields - it was all because of me. You're very welcome.

To Jason Quick and Chris Venville - wherever you are - thanks for the memories.

Long may Fee reign behind the panel.

Checkyoolaray!

Look Out For...

a)
Players by Tony Wilson

"Tickets began to have qualms even in the instant that passed between the headbutt starting and the headbutt landing...
Ex-footballer Ian 'Tickets' Thompson is the bad-boy darling of TV's top-rating sports show, 'Leather and Lace'. The more offensive he is, the more the fans love him.
But how will a million viewers, not to mention the police, react to his unprovoked assault on a homeless man? More to the point, what about his trigger-happy employer, media tycoon Sir Barry Haynes?
To Billy Nock, fading champion, icon of fair play and host of the dismally rating rival show, these are crucial questions. And when it starts to look like Tickets might get away with it, Billy is spurred to action...
Tony Wilson's wickedly funny first novel does for the world of sports media what TV close-ups did for the squirrel grip. Players will grab you from the very first page and it won't let you go. "

In stores now!

All About Tony

b)

c)

d)
A picture or two of the new addition - Bianca Celine Middlebrook born 31 Jan.

She Pee

Got this forwarded from Fee yesterday. Female BDO attendees take note - if you can't be arsed waiting for the loo, give this a try.

In order to use the facilities, women at the ‘Shee Pee’ will be provided with complimentary P-Mates - disposable, leak-proof paper funnels which enable women to urinate easily while standing up.

“The P-Mate is a convenient, hygienic, discreet solution to the long queues and other problematic circumstances which confront women, particularly at large events,” said Kees de Jong, Australian distributor of the P-Mate.

“Even though the P-Mate is fast and simple to use, we know that many women will be trying out the P-Mate for the first time so we’ll have plenty of P-Mate hostesses at hand to provide guidance.”

Draft

With the draft on this weekend, some of you might remember this...

2004 Australian Radio Pre-Season Draft

The Australian Broadcasting Authority’s investigation into 2UE’s salary cap breaches has taken a dramatic turn as a result of new evidence relating to money paid to former announcer Alan Jones. 2UE now looks certain to be stripped of crucial early draft picks as the ABA continues to gather information on at least six past and present broadcasters. The Authority has appointed representatives from an independent accounting firm to investigate the station’s books. The ABA has offered indemnities to 2GB’s Jones and John Laws in return for proof that the pair received under-the-table payments.

A move to strip 2UE of draft picks would certainly provoke strong opposition from several radio stations, primarily 3AW, which just traded away its first-round draft pick (overall No. 4) as part of a complicated deal in which Triple R midweeker Johnny Topper became a highly paid conservative Sydney shock jock.

In other trade news, a surprise result in the 2004 Australian Radio Pre-Season Draft landed John Laws in the hot seat as Triple R Breakfasters senior broadcaster. "I’m very much looking forward to working closely with Anthony Wilson and that Pang chappie, know what I mean?" Laws said of the surprise news. Triple R was caught napping after their first preference pick in the first round, 3AW’s Neil Mitchell, was snapped up by 3CR’s Dykes On Mics program.

Meanwhile, Triple R’s Stephen ‘The Ghost’ Walker is planning for a move to Gold 104 in what could end up being a career boost for the veteran broadcaster. "I’m thrilled at the prospect of being able to play my natural game," The Ghost said. "I can’t wait to run the quiz and find out who at Southlands Shopping Centre really knows the name of Nick Cave’s first girlfriend’s dog’s previous owner’s double live album." Walker, at 927 years of age, is the oldest broadcaster to be snapped up in the first round of the draft, at pick 13, and brings a wealth of talent and knowledge about deleted ‘C’-sides from seminal Azerbaijani neo-funk goat hearders to the Hits ‘N' Memories specialists.

The Ghost’s departure freed up room in Triple R’s salary cap to allow them a bold move in picking 2UE’s Stan Zemanek (No. 27) to co-host ‘On The Blower’ with Tony Biggs. Triple R’s Program Manager, Tracee Hutchison noted that "Biggsy’s not getting any quicker on his feet, and Stan can really assist in the vitriol department." Biggs was not available for comment, although was overheard mentioning "a big bucket of piss".

Also Joining Triple R is Dr Doo-wop from PBS’s Malt Shop Hop as part of a complicated three-way deal that saw Tim Thorpe head to Magic 693 and Greg Evans join PBS’s Red Stink Of Metal program. Derryn Hinch also ended up with the Rs, though pundits are yet to be convinced of his ability to keep up with the pack on Friday afternoons at the Standard.

In other moves:

Ernie Sigley nominated for the draft but failed to attract any high-profile interest, other than a priority pick (No. 3 overall) from Radio for the Print Handicapped. Sigley was said to be ‘weighing up his options’ as the move to RPH, and hence the need to read the Financial Review live to air, could prove too daunting.

Fee B-Squared’s release from duties on the Breakfasters after well-publicised concern about extra-radio affairs in eastern Europe has allowed her to make a fresh start at ABC Classic FM, in a straight swap with veteran broadcaster Clive Robertson. Robertson, earmarked for a utility role with ‘JVG Radio Method’, was pleased with his new lease on life, stating that "there are a number of quality broadcasters at the Rs who could teach me a thing or two about technique – audio or otherwise." Squared was circumspect about her opportunities to play Bach’s Fourth Concerto for Oboe and Distortion Pedal, Opus 1, in Morris Minor.

Robert Jan, once thought untouchable by the Triple R powerbrokers, will make the now well-publicised move to 774 ABC Melbourne to spruce up the Coodabeen Champions. A source close to Zero G noted that "the franchise player, the favourite son, is expendable", while Jan is looking forward to assisting the Coodabeens in regaining an audience lost since moving back from 3AW. "I think Greg Champion needs to do more parodies involving Klingons and Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Jan said.

News just to hand:

The rumoured move of Bruce ‘Bruiser’ Berryman to Light FM 89.9 Melbourne Christian Radio has not borne fruit. Whipsers abound about Tony Biggs’ alleged disinterest in sharing host duties with Stan Zemanek, and is discussing proposals of going to Light FM to present their ‘Heathens and Beelzebub’ hour.

Grannysaurus where?

Had a look for Tony Wilson's Grannysaurus Rex in Angus and Robertson's the other day. Not a sausage in the city, nor any other store. Hardly surprising when Tony's own publisher has a profile on him - but not his book! Think there might be a 'creative differences' split brewing...

Gus the Magic Actor

In the meantime have a singalong with this...

Gus the magic actor, worked on mike 3
And frolicked in the morning mist, with Antoiney and Fee
All the Rs subscribers, loved that rascal Gus
They even named his barbecue
The Barbasaurus

Oh, Gus the magic actor, worked on mike 3
And frolicked in the morning mist, with Squaredy Cat and me
Gus the magic actor, loves Zero G
And every day he’d make us laugh, and choke on our coffee

From marshmallows to stripping, he’d brighten up our day,
Though we’d sometimes start to panic at, the things that he would say
Like that copper Dennis Tanner, ‘He killed her’ Angus claimed
‘Allegedly!’ we all yelled out and no-one was defamed.

Oh Gus the magic actor, worked on mike 3
He’s bonded with Wayne Arthurs pissed, and knows Bograt stories
Gus the Magic actor, loves Zero G
And every day he’d make us laugh, and choke on our coffee

The show might last forever, but not so each of us
As an actor and an artist first, we struggled to keep Gus
One grey day it happened, Angus Sampson came no more
For Gus that mighty actor had a new world to explore

Our lips did shake with sorrow, and his lip did the same
Though his lips were ginormous, and put our lips to shame
We’ve lost our third banana, he’s headed down the road,
But we’ll be there beside him if, he wins a Golden Globe.

Oh Gus the magic actor, worked on mike 3
And frolicked in the morning mist, with Antoinee and Fee
Gus the magic actor, loves Zero G
He’ll certainly be sorely missed, by the Rs community

Angus

As Fee mentioned yesterday Angus will only be returning briefly to the Breakfasters before leaving for good. He's getting all famous and in-demand now so won't be able to devote sufficient time to 3RRR. He's still working on You and Your Stupid Friend, which is written by Dave O'Neil and Mark O'Toole, and will hopefully be better received than Take Away. Also hopefully Angus will go from strength to strength and recieve the accolades he richly deserves.

Sam Pang will take a week off when Angus comes back in the week leading up to Easter, then be back on permanently afterwards. John 'The Big O' Origlasso will continue with the Friday sports segment.

Hopefully we will get some parting tales of the Bog Rat.

RRR's Moving

TRIPLE R TO MOVE TO BRUNSWICK !

Triple R is delighted to announce that it will be moving to Brunswick in mid 2004 having successfully purchased a building at auction yesterday, Thursday December 4 th . The new premises are located at 217 – 221 Nicholson St Brunswick (corner Blyth St. ) and offer Triple R the opportunity to build a permanent home for broadcasting and live-to-air performances. The building is located at the end of the Nicholson St. tramline with easy access to the city and adjoining suburbs.

The station will soon be launching a special Triple R Lifetime Subscription package that includes a substantial donation to the House of RRR's to assist with purchase and relocation costs in 2004.

‘The purchase represents a major step in Triple R's history and development and for the first time we'll have the opportunity to create permanent studios and facilities suited to our unique style of broadcasting', said Station Manager, Kath Letch. ‘Of course, like all new home owners, we're a little nervous about the very large mortgage, but we're also feeling very positive about the move and the indications of support from our loyal listeners and volunteers', said Kath.

Triple R will be planning for relocation into the new premises early next year and commencing construction in late March 2004.

Gerry

As part of the Fringe Festival again this year they're running some live 'Whodunnit' radio shows on 3RRR. I caught a couple of these last year and they were great. Gerard is starring in 'What The Butler Didn't' which is being broadcast live this Sunday at 7:00pm.

The synopsis is: There's been a murder at a famous country house. The only suspects are the entire staff and three hundred butlers. There's only one man who can solve this case, his name is Jones: Fatality Jones. He's smart, resourceful and currently trapped in a freezer. How will it all end?

Gerard stars as Fatality Jones with Justin Kennedy and Jayne Tuttle as everybody else. You can go see it live from 6pm at 141 Johnston St Fitzroy. Adults $15, Concession $12, Kids $10.
