10th Flight Test Squadron

The 10th Flight Test Squadron performs B-1, B-52, C-135, and E-3 Functional Check Flights following Programmed Depot Maintenance and major modification. It executes low risk test and evaluation missions. It supports System Program Offices with test engineering and operational/technical expertise. It is the center test authority with test and evaluation process oversight for OC-ALC aircraft programs. It performs worldwide recovery of damaged aircraft.

I was told that the 10th FLTS was awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (AFOUA) for the period of 1 Jul 98 - 31 Dec 99. However, I have not been able to confirm this. If you have any information regarding this award (specifically, the special order number), please email me.

PACER CRAG & other 135 Stuff

PACER CRAG is a KC-135 modification. CRAG is an acronym that stands for Compass, Radar, And GPS. CRAG was AFMC's response to three AMC ORDs.

CRAG equipment includes: replacement of C-IV INS with EGI, addition of WXR-700 weather radar, addition of TCAS, addition of 5 MFDs, and addition of a CDU.

ECP-20 was a software change that allowed E model KC-135 aircraft to be brought up to Pacer CRAG Block 30 configuration without the RVSM mod.

Block 30

-- Enhanced ground proximity warning systeeem, which uses aircraft position and a digital terrain database to provide look-ahead awareness to the aircrew.
-- Reduced Vertical Separation Minima, whiiich equips the fleet to operate in reduced vertical separation airspace. This includes an additional digital air data computer, new digital altimeters and digital airspeed indicators.
-- Navigation and safety modification, whiiich installs a flight data recorder, cockpit voice recorder and emergency locator transmitter.
