The
Ceremony
|
We begin
the day in the park next to the point. The primary symbolism will
be two-fold:
- The ancient
Mesopotamean symbol of love, trust and fidelity:
The Palm Tree.
- The giver
of life, the granter of justice, the quencher of thirsts: Water.
It will be
difficult to miss this symbolism, as we will be UNDER palm trees
and IN FRONT of water. If you miss either of these elements, we
suggest that you have your eyes checked.

Parks
Victoria does not allow the throwing of rice. Apparently
the world famous Albert Park Lake black swans eat this rice,
thinking they are yummy (and safe) little grub worms. Black
swans LOVE a little grub worm.
When
the swans eat the rice, it expands in their little stomachs.
Swans are greedy little buggers, and they eat quite a bit
of the rice. Unfortunately,
their stomachs explode, and then they die.
Instead
of throwing rice, we will be throwing rocks at the world
famous Albert Park Lake black swans. Rocks will be available
for purchase at the kiosks. Wedding guests will receive
a free small packet of gravel.

Champers
and chombalumbas
After
the ceremony, Brian and Kristine will go off and have pictures taken.
In order to keep you from getting bored, or from sobering up, our
guests will adjourn to the decking for two Australian traditions:
- Champers:
A great Australian past-time involves taking words that aren't
all that long, and making them shorter. Champagne, therefore,
becomes 'champers'.
- Chombalumbas:
Another great Australian tradition is 'making up words' - also
known as using the Aboriginal word for something. Apparently,
the Aboriginal word for 'small red berries' is 'chombalumba.'
Hence all Australians call strawberries chombalumbas - kooky,
huh?

The
decking area is approximately 50m from the ceremony site.
Transportation will be provided. A bus will be leaving from
the Albert Park Athletic Centre at 5.15pm. Taxis will be
available to take guests from the Ceremony to the Albert
Park Athletic Centre.
Since
the bus will not be able to negotiate the small path to
the decking, guests will be dropped off in the car park
of Bob Jane Stadium. Taxis will be available to take
guests from the stadium to the decking.
Alternatively,
you could just walk -- I mean COME ON...

| Interestingly,
champers (or at least sparkling wine made following the 'methode
champagnoise' - French for "No, please don't look askance
at me - here are the keys to the country") plays a big part
in Brian & Kristine's wedding: Brian asked Kristine to marry
him while standing in the vineyards of one of Australia's best makers,
Domain Chandon.
Kristine said yes within 72 hours, following begging, crying, yelling,
and some chocolate bribery. |

The
Reception
| Upstairs
at The Point is a function room called the Panorama Room. Food
will be cocktail style, so don't expect a huge dinner. The idea
is to save room for official wedding sponsor VB!
At this point
the wedding theme is up in the air. Finalists include:
- Wedding
under the Sea: Wait staff dressed as Dolphins and Sea Horses
will circulate, offering delicious plankton cakes, coral puffs,
and a fermented seaweed drink popular among Polynesians
- An Elvis
wedding: All guests will receive prosthetic sideburns at the
door, unless guests' existing lambchops achieve the International
Elvis Standards Bureau 17 square cm. Musical entertainment will
feature people doing impressions of Elvis singing songs that
Elvis never sang. Kristine's personal favourite, "I know
that my heart must go on," will feature every hour, on
the hour.
Vote for your
favourite here!

While
Brian is a vegetarian - just a normal one, not the freaky
kind - we WILL be serving meat at the wedding. Murderous
carnivores are free to engage in their feast of death and
dismemberment.
For
out-of-towners, we will feature local delicasies such as
For
religious reasons, we will not be serving ANY lamb. Australians
eat too much lamb anyway.
