For the exigences of the plot, Barbara becomes an entertainer, and during this segment of the film, she sings both in solo and in duet (with Buddy Ebsen and Tony Martin.) This was the first time Barbara was called on to sing in one of her films and her singing was pleasant enough. |

An intricate and unlikely plot uses up a lot of the actors' energy and gives them little in return. Stanwyck is faced with the same girl from the wrong side of the tracks, but just a 'stray cat' this time. Taylor is loaded down with a combination of playboy and scientist. When Taylor leaves her to go to the tropics for researches, she seeks revenge marrying his brother. But this time she abandon revenge for nobility becoming a human guinea pig for his experiment. |
The film was successful at the box office., a film incredibly romantic, glossily produced, expertly directed and peopled by the sort of players most often encountered on the covers of the fan magazines. The romance off-screen between the two stars was added publicity. |
