Dragoners

Isaak rubbed the back of his head and grinned, shaking his head and laughing as Glupith splashed about in the water. There was little doubt in his mind as to what the icy blue dragon was trying to do, and at the rate the females were leaving the pool and surrounding area, Isaak couldn't help but to stop and applaud his dragon's effort.

I do believe you've scared them or chased them all away, Glupith. Shards, beast, what are you going to do if you ever want to rise? He said, sitting down not far from the water's edge and setting down to polish his riding tack.

Glupith snorted a reply, something along the lines of 'who cares', and dove under the water, showing as nothing more than an odd ripple under the pristine waters of the large lake.

"I suppose you think that's funny." Meleke chided, dropping down beside him and blowing her hair out of her face. Isaak started to rise, still unsure of how to act about his newly appointed Fleet Leader, but Meleke waved her hand for him to sit and laughed.

"What?" Isaak asked innocently, looking out over the water and smiling to himself, humming softly as he tried to play the part.

"You know very well what." Meleke said with a tiny snort, shaking her head and brushing her hair out of her face yet again. Isaak looked up to see her dragoness, Zamareth, a beautiful two-tone from what Glupith said, glide down to the water and start upbraiding his bond.

Give her what she's asking, Isaak coaxed, and Glupith trumpeted brazenly in Zamareth's face before diving under the water and disappearing. Zamareth bugled loudly but stayed out of the water, choosing instead to pace unhappily by it's edge. Meleke laughed with delight.

"His little stunt of chasing out all the females." Meleke finally answered, wiping a tear from her eye and looking back to him.

"It's not very well like I can stop him." Isaak said with a sly grin, shrugging his shoulder and setting aside the piece of leather he was working on. "What did you want to talk about?"

Meleke laughed again and smiled, placing a hand on his arm and squeezing.

"Phoebe told me you were going to be trouble," she whispered, her eyes twinkling merrily as she continued, "but you and I are going to get along just fine, I think."

Isaak smiled at her and waited, knowing that Meleke wouldn't have sought him for nothing. He was not disappointed.

"Considering how few juniors we have about to help train, and the rarity of the rampage plants and ant attacks in this area, Kesava has started to assign us to transport." She said with no small amount of disgust. Isaak hid his grin. "Anyway, I want you and Th'len to get out of here and take some things over to Ryslen."

"Ryslen?" Isaak repeated the same time that Glupith resurface to stare at the two of them, his tail twitching slightly from side to side. "Why the sudden interest?" Isaak asked Glupith out the side of his mouth, and the blue snorted and spat water at his rider.

Jumping back, Meleke raised an eyebrown at the childish game and sighed, rolling her eyes. "I can always ask someone else..."

"Shards, no! We'll do it," Isaak quickly said, jumping to his feet just as Cerise came bounding up to him, running eagerly about his legs. "Someone will have to watch her, though..."

"Not a problem. Kesava said that Lyrae will be more than happy to keep her company."

"When do we leave?"

"Glupith..." Isaak warned as the ice blue looked longingly at the water they were standing not far from.

It's not like there are any females to chase away anyway. He teased, smiling at his rider and flaring his wings as they waited. Finally, someone came out to talk to them, and Isaak could hear Th'len groan beside him.

"I'm sorry, but it's not here yet. You'll have to wait a few more days." She said, spreading her hands in apology. Isaak smiled and reassured her that it was all right and turned to Th'len with a pained expression on his face.

"Now what?" Th'len asked softly, crossing his arms and looking about the Weyr with a puzzled expression. They were both from Alskyr, and had little experience with Pern and the like, but Glupith and Nyasuth didn't seem to mind.

They're are some fine looking ladies about, and Zamareth says that Meleke wants us to come back with the package or not come back at all. Glupith informed his rider cheerfully, and Isaak frowned and looked about.

"Color?" He muttered as a dragon passed overhead, and Th'len quickly looked up to check. It wasn't his answer that got Isaak's attention, though, it was the lack of comments from Glupith.

No snide remark about the female species? Isaak teased, watching to see where the dragoness would land. Glupith glared at him, but said nothing.

"Purple, you said?" Isaak asked, and Th'len nodded in agreement, looking in interest at the flight board, which was posted not far from where they stood.

Violet, Glupith growled, but Isaak ignored him.

"Hey hey," he said, nudging Isaak and grinning widely, "Glupith's lady love is due up to rise."

"Can't be sure it's her." Isaak muttered, frowning as he looked at the details. Jerily, he thought with a small smile. It was a nice name, anyway.

Isaak, Glupith said softly, and Isaak turned to look at the dragon, I think we need to make introductions.

Isaak frowned and looked up to where the purple had gone. You sure? He asked, and Glupith flapped his wings and grinned. Sighing, Isaak shook his head and made his way slowly up to the weyr. He would sign them up later for the flight, but first he wanted to meet this lady and her dragon.

You'll need to be my eyes, Isaak said irritably, rubbing the back of his head and sighing angrily. It annoyed him to not even be able to see the color of her hair or eyes, but Glupith made a sound of assent and took to the air.

I will tell you her colors, and we will have a well deserved vacation, and I will pursue the lovely Ovaseth.

Isaak gave a tiny laugh, sighed, shook his head, and raised his hand to knock on Jerily's door.
