Nils Evald Sandeen
b. 08/14/1887 - d. 04/11/1962

NILS EVALD SANDEEN, 08/14 1887-04/11 1962. He
was born in Morberget, Grangårde, son of
Christine (Larsson) and Ola Sandeen. He died in
Bemidji, Minnesota, following a heart attack.
Married 12/20/1911 to Hulda Lindberg, born 04/09
1890 in Fosston, Minnesota, and died in Bemidji
06/11/1975.
Together with his parents and three siblings
Evald came to America 07/27/1891. Evald was a
farmer in Leonard, Minnesota, a short distance from
his parent's farm.
When Evald's brothers, Emil and Bill, filed
homestead claims in Northwestern Alberta, they
included Evald, but he never took possession of his
site.
From 1917 Emil and Bill had a car dealership in
Clearbrook, Minnesota. They expanded their business
with Ford agencies in Oklee, Thief River Falls and
Gully, Minnesota. Early 1930 Evald leased out the
farm in Leonard and he and Hulda moved to Gully
where Evald managed the Ford agency. With the onset
of the depression the same year, the car sales
deteriorated and Evald and Hulda returned to the
farm. They sold the farm in 1945 and moved to
Bemidji, where Evald was in the building and
roofing business.

Hulda had several miscarriages, but after treatment for
undulant fever at the Mayo Clinic she carried two sons to
term.
- ENOCH Herbert Sandeen, 01/23/1915 - 07/29
1931, son of Evald and Hulda (Lindberg) Sandeen. He died
from a kidney ailment.
- SAMUEL (SAM) Wesley Sandeen, 01/27 1932-03/28
1998 (heart failure). Son of Evald and Hulda (Lindberg)
Sandeen. Born in Leonard, Minnesota. Married 11/27/1954
to Patricia (Pat) Beckstrand, born 10/14/1937 in Bemidji
Minnesota. Sam graduated from Bemidji High school in 1950
and from Bemidji State University in 1954. He earned his
Master's Degree in music in 1968 at the University of
Michigan, Ann Arbor. He taught music in LaPorte,
Clearbrook and Bagley, Minnesota until he retired in
1989.
- YVONNE Jay Sandeen-Haugland, daughter of
Sam and Pat (Beckstrand) Sandeen. Married to Raymond
Haugland. The family lives in Burnsville, Minnesota.
They Have two sons, Ryan and Ross.
- BETTY Lou Sandeen-Wilson, daughter of Sam
and Pat (Beckstrand) Sandeen. Married to Peter Wilson.
The family resides in St. Paul, Minnesota. They also
have two sons, Peter and Wesley:
- TIMOTHY Allen Sandeen, son of Sam and Pat
(Beckstrand) Sandeen. Married to Bjorn Clayton. Their
home is in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. They have three
children, Heather; Nathan and Daniel.
- THERESA Kay Sandeen, daughter of Sam and
Pat (Beckstrand) Sandeen. Theresa is not married. She
lives in Apple Valley, Minnesota.
- LYNN Fayee Sandeen-O'Brian, daughter of Sam
and Pat (Beckstrand) Sandeen. Married to Timothy
O'Brian They have a daughter, Nicole, stepdaughter to
Lynn. The family resides in Grand Rapids,
Minnesota.
