Kjerstine Ulseth - Simastuen

Kjerstine went to the Simastuen farm to her aunt Marit as a young girl. As an old woman she often spoke about "Faster Marit" (father's sister) for whom she had good feelings. From the young girl's age of seven, Marit took her mother's place.

One of Kjerstine's memories about Aunt Marit, was how difficult it was following "faster" on her walk between the seter and Simastuen in the summer. Marit had to carry food from the seter to the people who harvested at Simastuen, and she had to be back at the seter in the afternoon to milk the cows. Kierstine's small legs had to move fast behind "faster".

Simastuen was one of the places in Kvikne that was founded as a result of the mining period, apparently built up by a man called Simen or Sima. Kjerstine married Iver Mikkelsen Taksgård, who had grown up on the neighbour farm, Taksgård. They took over the Simastuen farm from the old people there, and adopted as their family name Simastuen. They had five children: Marit, Karen, Sakarias, Ingeborg and Inga. They took part in the farm life at Simastuen, and in the summer at the "seter" as well. Iver died in 1943 and their son Sakarias took over the farm.

Kjerstine returned as an old woman to the same neighbourhood where her life started. She spent her last years at the Kvikne old peoples' Home, which at that time was situated at Ulsetlokka, near Ulset. So, she came back there, and ended her life at the age of 91.
