Kvikne

Kvikne is usually said to be a part of Osterdalen valley. In fact it is not so. When going north in Osterdalen, up from Elverum, you follow the road from Tynset towards Ulsberg. Soon you find the water running north, in opposition to Glomma in Osterdalen and its tributaries. Kvikne is its own valley. More correct it is the upper part of the Orkla valley, Orkdalen. But Kvikne is a part of Hedmark county and have always felt more familiar with the district in south than in north.

The main road through Kvikne reaches it's highest point at 700 meters above sea level. The mountains in the Kvikne area shows an altitude up to 1300 meters. The pine forest in Kvikne is rather small. The reason why, is to be found in the mining history of Kvikne during the 1600- and 1700's when the forest was cut down. Today the major part of the wood consists of birch trees.

Winter in Kvikne is usually snowrich and cold. In the summer, the valley usually shows its' smiling face, though rain sometimes threatens, and showers come.

Kvikne area offers good possibilities to hunt, to fish and simply relax. People who want to hunt, can trace elk, reindeer and different kinds of gamebirds. If you want to fish, you will catch trout and red char.
