For "Best Short," "Best Drama," and "Best Characterization" - if your story is a crossover, choose which show it better fits within.

We all know what romance is. Stories must involve a romantic relationship that has been established on the shows, past or present. (Though it is just barely there, I am including Angel/Cordelia in this category this round.) Stories have a much better chance of winning if they contain more than just pointless sex. Please specify the pairing in your nomination!

Stories taking place at least 5 years into the future, past whenever the story was written. If it is not certain when the story was written, it must be clear that it is a projected future and not just an alternate reality fic. Obviously the clearer the projection into the future, the more likely to get high marks for the category.

Stories taking place prior to beginning of the shows (or focusing on a character before that character's introduction to the shows). Stories early in the seasons do not count - even though that's past for us now. At least a large portion of events must be completely prior to whatever focal character's introduction on the show.

Stories involving Buffy and/or Angel and any other book/television show/movie/etc. There is a separate category for BtVS/Angel crossovers - stories in this category must include elements of another fandom in order to be eligible. Best chance of winning: stories giving considerable weight to both elements, while being understandable to those not immediately familiar with the crossover element.

Stories highlighting one or more characters from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. Great for POV pieces. Best chance: stories showing excellent insight into the show's characters - i.e. ones that make you say 'I can so see him/her/them doing that!' Please specify the character in your nomination!

Otherwise known as the 'Hey, are you sure you're not Joss?' award. For stories that feel like - and would make excellent - episodes. Best chance if the stories are similar to an episode in length and feel.

Stories that are either so incredibly diverged from canon as to be intentionally Alternate Reality or those taking the characters into a completely new setting (i.e. the frequently seen 'What if there was no such thing as vampires?' fics.) Role reversals, movie take offs, Wishverse stories, what ifs...pretty much anything goes here.

Two or more related stories, usually in a sequence. Best chance if the stories form a nice, cohesive group.

Site does not have to be exclusively fan fiction, but this should be a major part of the site.

Judges' Choice

Can not be nominated for - all nominees are automatically considered. A story that, for whatever reason, stood out to the judges as exceptional.
