About the Judging

Anyone curious as to how your stories will be considered? All stories will be read by two or more judges and receive one to five points in each of the following categories:

  • Mechanics: Basic things like spelling, grammar, and formatting.
  • Writing: Plot, characterization, etc.
  • Fits Category: How well does the story fit the category it was nominated for?
  • Enjoyability: Basically, when it all comes down to it, did we like it?

The story that receives the highest average total (out of a possible 20) is the winner.

In tie situations, the category scores are looked to as a tie breaker. Occasionally, an author's other nominations will also be considered in determining a tie (i.e. if the author leads in two or more categories). In the case of an irreconcilable tie, a run off commences with all the judges reading...or the award may just be given to both stories. Depends on the situation.

No author will receive more than one award (with the exception of the Judges' Choice award).

If you wish to know how your story did at the end of the judging period, please email me.
