Bowser offers pedestal type shaft supports with bronze bearings, which can be very useful in odd situations to support shafts for gears or splines for universals. Easily altered to adjust heights and angles and requiring only a single screw hole, they can reduce the necessity for machining surgery and make simple odd gear box substitutes . They are particularly useful in articulated locos, as in Bowser's original Challenger, or cases where shafts do not line up. ![]() Note: Adjust brightness and contrast for optimum viewing. PEDESTALS SHOWING 3/32" ID BEARING Tapped for 2-26 screw, shoulder can be removed to lower or raised with 5/32" ID tubing or washers. ![]() Note: Adjust brightness and contrast for optimum viewing. PEDESTALS MOUNTED ON OLD BOWSER MOUNTAIN FRAME Shoulders are inserted in countersunk holes. Left: Pass through type. Right: End type acts as backstop for shaft. Using brass tube and thrust washers to space worms or u-joint, they can be positioned at any convenient locations. Spur gears can be supported for parallel shaft reduction or idler gears.
