The plot is simple: The Cage plays a retired car thief who is blackmailed into doing one
last job in order to save his brother from being killed by the bad guy (Eccleston).
It's got loads of action in it which keeps you watching to the end but in my opinion the
weak plot makes it just another big action movie that is guaranteed to make loads of
money even though it's a very unremarkable film.
Angelina Jolie goes from winning an oscar for her performance in Girl Interupted to
playing a bit part as The Cage's love interest (she was probably in it fifteen minutes max) and The Cage himself doesn't really do much to make you want to watch it (maybe it was the $20 million he got that persuaded him to do it).The film was full of great actors but none of them do any acting.
If you watch the film you will be able to see it conforming to the knucklehead action
movie formula as clear as day. It is a film that looks as though it was thrown together in as little time as possible but if you like nice cars being driven very fast in impossible situations you will probably like Gone in 60 seconds a bit more than I did but all in all I thought it was a very disappointing film.

A heartfelt mesage to Nicholas Cage.

   Dear The Cage,
You need to sort your life out and start doing some quality acting in decent films like you are capable of. Take a few of your films from '95 onwards for example - Gone in 60 Seconds,
Snake Eyes, 8mm, Face Off, Con Air, The Rock, Bringing Out The Dead. Ok
we get the message Nick, you like doing action films and you get a massive wedge
everytime but we've seen it all before now. With the exception of
Face/Off (and maybe you could argue the case for The Rock) the action films that you have chosen to do have been no different to Gone in 60 seconds just weak plot/seen it a millon times before garbage. 8mm was terrible and Bringing Out Your Dad well, maybe the BBM reviewing panel were a tiny bit harsh but although you were fairly good in it, it wasn't a good film and was definitely one of Martin Scorsese's weakest films of the last decade. And Family Man; I've not seen it yet and to be honest have no desire to see it because it looks absolutely terrible.
I have seen that you have four films due for release in 2001 and I hope we start to see
the resurgence of the Cage that we all know and love. We know how good you can be from seeing films like Leaving Las Vegas and your older films like
Red Rock West, Raising Arizona and Wild at Heart are top. So please, lets see the return of the real Cage to the silver screen and not the money grabbing jerk ass that you have become.

       Love you always,
                               BBM.
