I think that this film was supposed to be a comedy but it wasn't really all that funny. Now you may think that I am slagging it off by saying this but despite not being hilariously funny it is still a pretty top film for one that isn't all that famous. It is about a guy (De Niro) that is sent on a mission by another guy who owns a bail bonds company and wants the guy that the guy sent on the mission is out to get so that he will get his money when the guy being tracked down is sent to prison. This is simple enough but it is made more complicated by De Niro and the captured guy being so late getting back to the bail bonds dude that he sends out another guy to get the prisoner and bring him back because he thinks that De Niro is fucking him about. De Niro and the prisoner are also being hunted by the dastardly Feds led by the bloke that played Kananga in Live and Let Die (I think it's Live And Let Die anyway. It's the one where the girl is Solitaire.......I've just looked in the Virgin book of film records and it is.) But anyway all this leads to a surprisingly entertaining film and it will all become clear if you just watch it. If you don't cooperate, you're gonna suffer from fistaphobia. Robert De Niro in Midnight Run (1988). |
