Some of the special effects look a little dated these days but The Terminator is still a sweet film. The story is quite simply brilliant - Sarah Connor is being persued by a Cyborg who "can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead." I think you'll be pretty scared if you were in a similar situation. Kyle Reese, a regular human, also from the future who has survived the nuclear war, has come back to protect her so that she survives to conceive her child, John Connor who will grow up to lead the humans in the war against the machines that have attempted to take over the planet. Arnie is top in it even though I don't think he says more than fifty words in the whole movie and the only change in his facial expression is when he blinks, I think it's definitely one of his best movies and the other two leads also giving career topping performances are equally impressive. The only critisism of the movie and it isn't much of one considering the resources that they had in 1984 were some of the special effects, most of them were fine but the final scenes when the metal skeleton of the Terminator is still persuing Sarah looked terrible. The thing that I couldn't understand about it though is that these couple of shots that show a poorly animated Terminator skeleton weren't necessary at all because he had plenty of good stuff that could have been used in place of this from the shots of the models that are also used in the same scene and these would have been perfectly adequate. But alas this minor critisism doesn't spoil what is a fantastic movie, a classic even, bring on Terminator3 in 2002 and a Terminator2 DVD. The DVD as you can see from the info below is one of the best around. I've not watched all the extras yet but the ones I have watched were definitely worth getting it for.
