THE TOOLS

• IMAGEMAGICK STUDIO
  What can't you do here? By far the most important tool in the box. Use for resizing, cropping, annotating, "tranparifying", rotating, and most importantly compositing. This is the only online compositing tool I've found. If you know of another, let me know too!

• GIFWORKS
  My favorite use for GifWorks is to reduce image file size. I've kept the file size of all images below 30kb (for easier transloading) using the "fewer colors" option. I've also used the "chalk", "oilpaint", and "watercolor" effects to make a textured background from a plain color swatch.

• MYIMAGER
  MyImager will change file types (so I can go to GifWorks). Also used a lot for backgrounds is the "new gif" option which allows you to create a new image to your size and color specifications.

• WARPSPEED' S COMBINED TOOLS PAGE
  There are a lot of test beds out there, but WarpSpeed's has always been my favorite. Also on this tool page are file-type converter, image size reducer, image sizer, validator, and "transparentizer".

• STARBLVD TRANSLOADER
  The tool that opened up a whole new world for WebTV users.

• THE FREELOADERS
  How they have managed to continue to transload without file size limits is beyond me, but I'm grateful they have!

• THE WEBTV UTILITY
  If I had only one F-Key this is the site I would assign to it. Everything you need is here.

In some cases, I haven't credited a site for providing the "root" image I started with when making a set. Some sets incorporated images that I had transloaded long ago and had been using on my personal web pages. Unfortunately, I can no longer remember at which free site I found them! Also, many of these are very common images on the Web and can be found at several sites other than the ones I've mentioned. So, if you happen to be the owner of any free, unrestricted graphic site, I thank you for making them so easily available for people like me!

There are many, many more tools and graphics sites available to WebTV users, but these are the ones I used to create my background sets. This page isn't intended to be a directory to online tools and graphics, but rather a "Thank You" to the people who built and maintain these sites.
