PRISTINA, Kosovo (CNN) -- Two U.S. soldiers were killed overnight when their armored personnel carrier overturned in the U.S. sector, a U.N. peacekeeping representative told CNN.

The vehicle apparently overturned while on patrol, and the incident appears to have been an accident, with no other vehicles involved and no landmines or explosive devices, the KFOR spokesman said.

The soldiers were taking part in a normal patrol in the U.S. sector. They were part of Bravo company, 9th Engineering Batallion, 1st Infantry Division which is normally based in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Three other soldiers were also injured in the accident, the spokesman said. The deaths are the first fatalities for the U.S. forces in Kosovo.

PRISTINA, Yugoslavia -- A Texan was among two U.S. soldiers killed Sunday when their armored personnel carrier overturned, a spokesman for the NATO-led peacekeeping force said. Three other soldiers were hurt.

The deaths of the two U.S. peacekeepers occurred near Dmorovce, 10 miles northeast of Gnjilane, where U.S. forces are based.

The accident came five weeks after U.S. forces, now totaling about 5,000, entered the province along with other NATO troops under a peace accord.

A brief service was held Sunday night on the ramp at a Macedonia airport before the bodies were airlifted to Germany en route to the United States.

The victims were identified as Spec. Sherwood B. Brim, 30, of Dallas, and Sgt. William W. Wright, 27, of Clearlake, Calif.

Brim is survived by his wife, Danna.

Military officials said they were killed when their M-113-A3 APC lost a track and overturned. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

A memorial service for the men will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the 9th Engineer Battalion Headquarters, Camp Bondsteel.
