U.S. soldier dies in Kosovo

PRISTINA, Yugoslavia -- A U.S. peacekeeper serving with NATO peacekeeping troops in Kosovo has died from injuries sustained when he fell from a helicopter, the U.S. military said in a statement Saturday.

He was identified as Navy Gunners Mate 2nd Class Chad Burkhart, 25, of New Holland, Pa.

"The tragedy of this young service member's death is keenly felt by the members of this command and by his parent service, the Navy. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family," said Brig. Gen. Dennis E. Hardy, commander of the American sector in Kosovo.

The accident is under investigation.
