DataCAD
DataCAD is a professional-level A/E/C CADD program for architectural
design, photo-realistic rendering, animation, and construction document
creation. Developed by architects and software engineers for architecture,
DataCAD includes tools that make design and drafting easier, such
as automatic door and window insertion, associative dimensioning
and hatching, automated 3D framing and OpenDWG®-based DXF/DWG
translators. DataCAD is listed as the second most-widely used software
by registered architects according to the most recent American Institute
of Architects (AIA) firm survey.
A new TIN (Triangulated Irregular Network) surface modeler provides
a comprehensive array of three-dimensional site modeling tools.
The TIN modeler can connect a random series of survey points (3D
markers) with triangular polygons. Once the polygons are generated,
you can calculate the surface area of TIN models, use the flip valley
option to “flip” the valley between coincident polygon
edges, or create roads, foundation cuts, etc. with the 3D Knife.
The drop point option lets you place 3D markers on the surface of
inclined polygons. You can create polyline contours from polygon
site models.
We've enhanced symbol reporting so you can run reports on all symbols
in the drawing instead of just the symbols in the active template.
A new dialog gives you access to report forms and displays an on-the-fly
preview of the results.

Load DataCAD on your portable computer and take it right to your
building site. It has special features for builders and contractors
to help you increase productivity and improve quality. For example,
DataCAD’s built-in FrameIt utility automates 3D framing for
floors, walls and roofs. You actually see the software "walk
around" building walls, and locate stair, door, window, and
skylight openings.
Once the job is done, you can output a file containing the bill
of materials, including a complete list of "board feet"
for framing members. With DataCAD Estimator (sold separately), you
can create a comprehensive estimate, including overhead and profit,
almost effortlessly.
DataCAD allows you to draft, edit, and prepare precision construction
documents. More than just a drafting tool, DataCAD includes automated
3D modeling, and photorealistic rendering tools that put you ahead
of the competition. You control the lighting, cast shadows, and
apply texture maps to create compelling, 24-bit color images of
your latest design. Visualizing a project in advance allows you
and your client to save time and money by agreeing on changes earlier
in the design process.
User-defined keyboard macro sequences can now include up to 1,024
commands and there is no limit to the number of characters you can
use in the sequence. We've also added a special PAUSE character
so you can tell the macro to wait until you do something such as
click or type. Go to the Help pull-down menu and select What's New?
for more information.
A new option allows you to disable the display of nested external
references at the time you insert an XREF. You can also toggle the
display of nested external references on a per XREF basis via the
Reference File Manager or the context-sensitive pop-up menu. The
display of nested references can be disabled globally with the Display
Nested XREFs option in the Nested XREFs section of the Misc. tab
of Program Preferences.
DataCAD 11 uses double-precision floating point math to calculate
and store values in the drawing database. Prior versions of DataCAD
had an effective accuracy of ~7 decimal places. DataCAD 11 has an
effective accuracy of ~14 decimal places. That means DataCAD 11
is now as accurate as AutoCAD® and you can work on much larger
projects without running into rounding issues, especially when importing
large drawings.
We revamped DataCAD’s backup and recover process to be more
reliable and less confusing. Whenever you exit a drawing abnormally,
DataCAD will automatically try to recover the most recent version
of your file without prompting you with unnecessary warnings and
options.
DataCAD 11 introduces an easier way to browse, select, and manage
symbols. The new Symbol Browser allows you to rapidly find, place,
customize, and manage symbols that you use in your drawings. Inserting
a symbol into your drawing involves little more than selecting it
from the Symbol Browser and dropping it where you want it. With
just a few mouse clicks, you can open the appropriate folder, display
the symbols in the browser, and select the ones you want to use
into your drawing. If you developed custom templates with older
versions of DataCAD, you can open them in the Symbol Browser, too.
In effect, the Symbol Browser treats file folders as templates that
contain collections of symbols.
A line type manager has been added to the Line Type menu. Select
Line Manage from the Line Type menu to access a dialog for loading
or re-loading external line type definitions into your drawing.
You can also set the End Correction and Default Spacing for embedded
line type definitions.
Features:
Multi-Line Walls creates custom 2-, 3-, or 4-line wall
types with automatic cleanup. Custom wall styles can be saved and
loaded for future use.
Hidden Line Removal hides background geometry in wire frame models
to display accurate, 3D, vector line drawings.
Associative Dimensioning dynamically recalculates as you make changes.
Switch between architectural, engineering, and metric scales on
the fly.
DXF/DWG Translator imports and exports AutoCAD® R12 through
R2000 DXF® /DWG files.
XREF (External Reference Files) allows you to insert one drawing
into another and work simultaneously with other designers.
XClipping (XREF Clipping) allows you to create custom viewports
for masking out portions of reference files.
Associative Hatching updates pattern, scale, and size; over 40 patterns
are included, with many others available.
Solid Color Fills for shading of walls and facility use diagrams.
OpenGL Shader with 7 definable light sources, instantly shades models
on screen.
"Heads-Up" Interface incorporates on-screen menus, customizable
toolbars and programmable keyboard shortcuts; does not require additional
overlay or digitizer.
TrueType Fonts support provides access to thousands of available
Windows fonts.
Text Import tool imports and exports ASCII text files between DataCAD
drawings or between DataCAD and other Windows applications, such
as Word. Provides 26 fonts, including six hand-lettered fonts, with
many others available.
Icon toolbars make all drawing and editing features available with
a click of the mouse.
Multiple Document Interface (MDI) allows you to open an unlimited
number of drawings and cut-and-paste between them.
Digital Terrain Modeler (DTM) creates complex 3D site models using
contours or point data provided by your surveyor.
Object Viewer provides dynamic 3D viewing and shading of your model.
Symbol Library with over 3,000 2D and 3D architectural symbols.
Layer Manager makes it easy to arrange, sort, and manage your drawing
layers.
Multi-Scale Plotting allows you to plot several differently scaled
details of a drawing on the same sheet of paper. Supports an unlimited
number of details and up to 256 sheets per drawing.
Bitmap Import allows you to insert images within your drawing for
tracing.
ViewMaster creates walk-through view sequences.
