The SAAB Draken is the an indigenous Swedish aircraft which uses the Swedish developed "double delta" configuration to provide additional space for fuel and weapons. The Draken was originally designed to knock out supersonic bombers, but it does a good job in the recon and attack roles as well. The Draken is one of the first supersonic western European fighters to see large scale service. From all accounts the Draken was a beautiful aircraft to fly. Danish pilots did not give up their Drakens until the 1980s when F-16s were brought online in that country. The Draken continued the Swedish tradition of only equipping with indigenous aircraft. Although almost all Drakens have been replaced with Gripens and Viggens in Sweden and Fighting Falcons in Denmark the Draken will be remembered as one of the best fighters of its day.
