Vought F-8 Crusader
Data for F-8H Variant
The Vought F-8 Crusader was the first fully supersonic carrier borne fighter aircraft procured by the US Navy. The Crusader was very neat little fighter. The Crusader has a variable incidence wing. This wing gave it the ability to achieve better angle of attack during carrier launchings and approaches. The Crusader was replaced by the F-4 Phantom II and Phantom was in turn replaced by the F-14 Tomcat. The Crusader is often known as the last gunfighter because it primary armament was its canon, although it could carry Sidewinders. The French bought F-8s for their Clemenceau class carriers which are now being replaced by the Charles du Gaulle class equipped with Rafales.
