Dassualt M.D.450 Ouragon

After the second world war the French government was looking to rebuild that country's aviation industry. There was no better way than an indigenous fighter program. The fighter interceptor specifcation issued by the French Air Force led to the development of the Ouragon (Hurricane in Englsih) in record time. From the start of the program in December 1947 to the first flight of the prototypes in February 1949 the elapsed time was barely over a year. The Ouragon was the first jet to be ordered in quantity by the Armee de l'Air with 350 being produced. Ouragons also saw orders and service in Isreal and India. Later in their lifespans some Ouragons were modified to increase their utility and were renamed Barougon. Ouragon began to be replaced by Mystere IV's in 1958 bu remained as trainers into the sixties. Ouragon proved distictly inferior to MiG-15's in the Arab Isreali wars, but, nonetheless, some 18 survived into the eighties in the El-Salvadorian Air Force.
