The Douglas R4D-6 NATS

Freeware Plane --- The Best of The Best

This is one of the best airplanes that I have found on the net.

If you like the old Gooney Bird (DC-3) then here is the absolute best!

          The Douglas R4D-6 NATS

It is the work of the very talented team of

Bill Rambow, Roy Chaffin, Jan Visser

The Files I needed for the FS 2000 version were,

          wjrdc34a.zip, wjrdc34b.zip, r4dv4pa2.exe, r4dv40up.zip

The patch file r4dv4pa2.exe may not be needed anymore with a new download but I have listed it anyway.

more information can be found at RCS Panels.

This is a model of the real aircraft that is on display at

MAAM the Mid Atlantic Air Musium.

The real plane needs an engine and MAAM is taking donations for this cause

          R4D-6 Donation page.

Here is a excerpt from Roy Chaffin's Web site: placed here on 10/30/2000

          " R4D Appeal "

On behalf of the R4D development team and MAAM we are pleased to
tell you that we have so far raised around $20,000 from
CDROM sales and donations to the R4D Engine fund. To
all you generous people, can we thank you for your contributions. We are nearly half way there.

I am also pleased to tell you that we now have an estimated one
quarter of a million (250,000) users of the R4D-6 version 4
package. Probably making it one of the most popular of all time.
The package has also topped the highest average daily download
figures for the year 2000 for some months on Flightsim.com, even
beating MS FS2000 Patch 2B for top spot.

You don't need me to tell you that this is a remarkable
achievement, and gives us enormous pride and satisfaction. :-))

However, as one of our readers (Grahame Hall) pointed out "If
only everyone had sent just one single dollar to MAAM" we would
more than have the engine and the real aircraft back in the air.

So far we estimate that only 800 people out of 25,000 have made
a donation. I am sure there isn't a single Flight Sim enthusiast
worldwide that could not afford one single dollar to
say "thanks" for a package we know you enjoy.

I am equally sure that most of the people I am appealing to do
not read this page, but if you do and haven't sent in a
donation, then please do the honorable thing and dig in your
          pockets.

I would also appeal to other webmasters to repeat this message
to give it greater publicity. Or if you have FS mates email them
and tell them. The developers thank you in advance for your help.

Money can either be sent direct to MAAM at the address is on
http://www.maam.org or mailed to me a the address on
the "Wildlife Art" page on this site. It will then be forwarded
          on your behalf.

Please pass on the word, and have a great week.

          If you can Please Donate.

this aircraft flys like a dream.
Here are a few more screen captures of this bird.

Final approach to Miegs field in Chicago, Miegs Field is no longer there. They closed it
a year or so ago. so the only way it can still be used by aircraft today is in Flight Simulator, and I think thats great.
Ya know I would love to be able to use the old WhiteRock Airport
that used to be here on the east side of Dallas.
They closed it over 27 years ago and built homes on the land. :(
I think I will rebuild it in FS 2000. :)

          This was a nice landing

A little history on the plane

Take a look at the panel. It is a masterpiece
and this reduced screen capture does it no justice.
It is the best I have seen.

By the way, when your sitting in the cockpit look around and to the back of the plane
          Unbelievable detail.

Well folks there you have it. The

          Douglas R4D-6 NATS

By Bill Rambow, Roy Chaffin, Jan Visser

and it is one of, if not the, BEST of the BEST.
