Rat Project

You have made a number of observations and measurements on your rat over the last few weeks. Use these observations and measurements together with your own research to prepare a project on the rat.

You should divide your project up so that it includes the following sections:

  1. What are rats like? Their shape, size, appearance, how fast they grow.

  2. How do rats behave? Their movement, climbing ability, use of their paws and legs, use of their tail, feeding.

  3. What are their senses? Use of their whiskers, ears, eyes, nose, touch.

  4. Rat reproduction. How old are they when they reproduce, gestation period, size of litters, development of young, weaning etc.

  5. Table and growth graph of your rat. When does it show the fastest rate of growth?

  6. Caring for rats. Handling, cages, food, cleaning etc

  7. Types of rats.

  8. References and acknowledgements.

You should prepare your project as a booklet or multipage format using pictures, drawings or photographs to illustrate the project. You may use a computer for the project but you won’t be penalized if you don’t.

This should be your own work, written in your own words. You must not photocopy sections from encyclopaedias or other printed material or copy and paste Internet references.
