A Most Dangerous Republican
By: Míchéal Ó Reilly
Martin McGuinness and Gerry Adams have been called the "Godfathers of Terrorism" by the UUP leadership. There are hundreds of Irish men and women sitting in British prisons, convicted of terrorist activity. Whether they are guilty or not, is not relevant to this story. What is relevant is that despite the alleged crimes of these folks, there is one Irish Republican that is considered so dangerous by the British Government, that they have kept her locked securely away for her entire life!
The fear that this woman's name must bring to the Blair Administration, to continue the policy of detainment to this very day. One has to feel sorry for poor Tony, imagine if this woman was to get a trial, she might slip through the fingers of justice and … who knows what she might do. To be fair, poor Tony has inherited the situation. That's not saying he's been any better than Major ever was. The woman in question is Loinnir McCotter. Don't know her? Don't remember the details of her case? Loinnir, daughter of Roisin McAliskey…now remember? Loinnir has been in British custody her ENTIRE life. Imagine such fear over a 6-month-old. Talk about having your reputation preceding you.
Perhaps we should give old Tony the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps it's just his advisors that fear little Loinnir. (Perhaps that's a bunch of gobshite.) Perhaps it's just a "stay-the-course" policy regarding the Six Counties. This got us to thinking: we wondered what might have happened in the transition of Tory to Labour? A possible scenario:
