Today, July 4th, the people of the U.S A celebrate their freedom.
Meanwhile, in America's prisons, 3000 people await execution.
The United States is supposed to be the most advanced nation on
Earth, yet the Government routinely murders it's own citizens.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE DEATH PENALTY?
IT'S UNJUST:The American Criminal Justice System is a sick joke.
Notoriously racist police officers obtain confessions through
beatings and torture, while in the courts 'justice' is a commodity
sold to those who can afford the big-shot lawyers.
IT'S RACIST:Around 40% of death row inmates are black. Of these,
how many are guilty, how many innocent?
The U.S. system of justice is in no fit state to answer this
question.
What better way to get rid of troublesome Black Political
Activists?
Mumia Abu Jamal is a prime example of such a person; Framed for a
crime he did not commit, found guilty by a racist jury, he now sits
on death row, waiting to be killed.
IT'S ANTI WORKING CLASS:You simply don't find rich men in the
death rows of America.
The death penalty is seen by the ruling classes as an integral
part of a system designed to keep the working class in their place.
IT'S BARBARIC:Here in the west, at the end of the twentieth
century, we like to think of ourselves as civilised.
We look back on the savagery of the past (witch burnings, trial by
drowning), incredulous at such insane barbarism.
How will history judge the way the United States deals with crime
today?
IT DOESN'T WORK:The fact is that the death penalty is totally
ineffective in the 'war against crime'.
If it worked, the U.S would have the safest city streets in the
western world. Yet, as we all know, America is sinking in a culture
of armed violence and murder.
WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?
