Arguments for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms 1. Every person has the right to defend himself, his loved ones, his property, innocent people and their property by the best means available. This is not predicated upon the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. Government does not have the power to grant such a right, since it already exists. The Constitution merely guarantees that Government shall not infringe this right. 2. "Whereas", don't mean squat. The whereas clause is only decorative and has no force at law. (See: Whereas Editorial.) 3. It is poor public policy to attempt to prohibit RKBA, including CCW, as this violates individual rights and the Constitution, sets the interests of the public and Government at loggerheads, and reduces public safety - as any honest criminal will tell you. 4. Even if the Constitution did not specifically single out this right for special protection as it does, the prejudice against guns is based upon a combination of ignorance of the many and evil motive of the few. Anything can be used to maim and kill: cars, knives, rope, tire-irons, chain-saws, paper-weights - you name it. There is no legitimate reason to single out firearms. Also, there are laws on the books to deal with crimes of violence. Singling out guns is irrational. ![]() |
