Trigger Effect
The Trigger Effect   Semi-apocalyptic thriller about two suburbanites' plight in the wake of a gigantic, Region-wide power failure and how society would unravel into anarchy.  Suddenly they find themselves in a reality far more dire than the one they once knew.  The couple find themselves inexorably drawn into increasing lawlessness.  Fleeing for safer parts of the country, they face strangers, distrust, fear, and - ultimately - their own humanity.  Gary North: "The Trigger Effect...there were some [scenes in] that movie which people really should watch very carefully.  One was the [scene] of what happens in the supermarket, and the other was the [scene] of what happens in the local gun store.  Those two [scenes] are worth watching the movie."

Straw Dogs
Straw Dogs  Dustin Hoffman and Susan George star in Sam Peckinpah's deliciously violent drama about a young couple's attempt to live a quiet domestic life.  He's an American mathematician whose pacifism is put to supreme test when he returns with his saucy, nubile bride to her family farm in the remote English countryside.  No sooner do they move in than friction erupts with the inbred villagers.  Tensions are further exacerbated when Amy parades topless while inebriated handymen work outside their home.  Late one evening, the town idiot accidentally kills a teenage girl.  Trying desperately to prevent a lynching, David secures the man in his home but then becomes the object of the lynch mob's rage.  Can he stand up against the angry horde?  He is finally pushed into violent confrontation in order to protect himself and his wife.  Academy Award Nominations: Best Original Dramatic Score.

Deliverance
Deliverance  Superlative recreation of the Dickey novel of four Atlanta businessmen who get more than they bargained for during a weekend canoe trip.  McKinney and Coward are two of the most terrifying film villains in history.  The "Dueling Banjos" scene is delightfully memorable.  James Dickey adapted his own novel, and appears in the film as a sheriff  Ed O'Neill appears as a highway patrolman near the end of the film.  The director's son Charley (later star of The Emerald Forest) plays Voight's son.  Panavision.
