"New" Social Security Number

Changing one's name before being issued a second Social Security Number hasn't really eliminated the possibility of being found.

I was so happy when I heard they were finally making some changes in the social security number issue. I thought it would make The Protection Program completely unnecessary and I couldn't be more thrilled.

But then I realized as I looked into it that the changes missed the mark.
Apparently it still isn't clear just what is really needed.

Although it is still impossible to get a
new Social Security Number it is now much easier for a survivor of domestic violence to be issued a second Social Security Number.

New? Second? What's the difference?       There's a BIG difference! The idea behind getting a
NEW Social Security Number is to allow a survivor to be completely untraceable. That means nothing from her past is linked to her present or future.

    A
second Social Security Number just gives you that...another number with the same name.
Changing one's name is a legal action that leaves a paper trail therefore changing one's name before being issued a second Social Security Number hasn't really eliminated the possibility of being found.
I imagine that any good detective would have the information necessary to figure it out.

New? Second? What's the difference?

There's a BIG difference!
