Notes:
1. The total number of adoptions in British Columbia - 70,000 (source: B.C. Vital Statistics Agency) (5171 / 70,000 x 100%)
2. Total recorded population of British Columbia 3,724,500 (source: Statistics Canada)
3. Vetoes from the B.C. Adoption Reunion Registry under the former Adoption Acts:
(Passive Registry June 1987 ===>Active Registry Oct 1991 ===> Open Records Nov 4, 1996)
- approximately 600 no contact vetoes were transferred from the B.C. Adoption Reunion Registry and were converted to no-disclosure vetoes under the new Adoption Act. These converted vetoes are included in the total 2990 Disclosure Vetoes listed above .
- See Section 99 of the Adoption Act, "Continuation of vetoes"
4. Found out January 21, 1998, that about 10% of those applying for a copy of their original birth registration are hitting some kind of veto.
5. As of January 1998, 8 vetoes have been cancelled.
