State Reform Party Sarawak Establishes Internet Presence

Dec 1998 -- STAR launches its website today. STARnet, the official internet website of the State Reform Party Sarawak, was set up to enable people to keep in touch with STAR's political struggle. "We are taking full advantage of this new Internet technology and the free flow of information on the Web so that people may become more familiar with STAR and what we stand for," party president YB Dr. Patau Rubis said.

The web site also allows people another avenue to communicate directly with STAR and further facilitate the process of STAR becoming a people's party.

State Reform Party Sarawak celebrates Second Year anniversary

Oct 10, 1998 -- STAR celebrated its second anniversary with a grand dinner at Kampung Rayang in Serian.

About 500 people attended the function. Among the guests were leaders of the DAP Stampin branch and members of UMNO Sarawak.

In his address to the gathering, party president Dr. Patau Rubis reminded party leaders and members to be vigilant at all times against any onslaught on the party particularly with the impending general elections.

He said one of the common tactics of STAR opponents was to dangle carrots in front of our leaders and members to tempt them to leave the party. He urged them to be wary of such ploys and not to be tempted by sweet promises. ‘Do not sell your soul,’ he said.

Dr. Patau said ‘Our detractors want to lure our people away in order to destroy STAR.’

‘They want our members to become disillusioned with their party leaders so that they will leave the party,’ he warned.

He was, however, happy to note that so far, STAR leaders have all remained steadfast to the party’s struggle and that none had gone astray.

He ended his address with this poignant reminder to all, ‘If it is to be, it is up to me.’

Cultural shows, singing and dancing added color to the evening’s celebration.

Dr. Jerip denies leaving STAR for Barisan Nasional

October 17 -- State Reform Party Sarawak's Deputy Secretary General Dr. Jerip Susil categorically denies that he has joined any Barisan Nasional (BN) component party. "My political involvement in the state is only through STAR. I am a founder member of STAR and still the Deputy Secretary General of the party."

He added that he believes in the political reforms expounded by the party for Sarawak and remains proud to be in the struggle. "STAR denounces the politics of patronage, nepotism and corruption."

Although Dr. Jerip had been approached by people from several BN component parties, he had declined their offers.
