NATURAL DIVIDEND
The REAL party believes it is important to distinguish between payments people receive from the government in recognition of fundamental rights, payments received in recognition of contractual rights and payments received as a result of the charitable wishes of the rest of the population.

Some people like to think that individuals have a right to have all their basic needs met. The REAL party feels it is unrealistic and impractical to believe in such a right. Although we know that it fails to get the right things to the right people, the world does appear at present to be able to fill the basic needs of its total population but it is clearly conceivable that this will not always be the case. Even if the resources to fill everyone's needs exist achieving that goal clearly requires that someone does some work and the REAL party does not believe it is practical or desirable to recognise the right of one person to something which requires someone else to do something.

Similarly the right to 'work', which some would like to believe that we have, implies a right to require someone else to create the work and to pay for it.

The fundamental right which the REAL party believes it is practical to recognise is the right to an equal share of the value of anything which exists without any human individual doing anything: a right to an equal share of the value of natural resources.

A REAL government would phase in a natural dividend which would be a payment to every individual in recognition of their fundamental right to a share of the value of natural resources. It is expected that this payment would eventually be sufficient for a fit and healthy person to live on if they were able to do most things for themselves. The amount of the payment would be determined by a market mechanism which would enable the values of every individual to be taken into account.

The REAL Party does not believe it is practical or desirable to recognise the right of one person to something which requires someone else to do something.

The fundamental right which the REAL Party does believe it is practical to recognise is the right to an equal share of the value of natural resources.

The REAL Party feels it is unrealistic and impractical to believe in a right to 'work' or a right to have all your basic needs met.

A REAL government would phase in a 'natural dividend' which would be paid to every individual.
