MAIN POLICY
- Phase in a tax on all natural resources which are of sufficient economic value to make the administration of the tax cost effective except those which have been set aside for conservation purposes. The amount of the taxes to be determined by a market mechanism which would enable the values of every individual to be taken into account.
- Pay compensation (defered and spread over as long a period as is reasonable) for any losses caused by the resource taxes.
- Phase in a Natural Dividend which would be a payment to every individual in recognition of their fundamental right to a share of the value of natural resources. The payment to be an equal division of the money raised by the resource taxes less a minimum administration fee.
- Phase out business taxes.
- Allow people to vote directly, in referenda, on many important issues.
- Change no policy goals, while in power, without clear public support.
- Get all party support or call a General Election if unpopular changes are necessary.
- Protect the rights of children by monitoring their achievement of goals agreed by all cultural groups in the country and imposing remedial action if necessary.
TRANSITIONAL POLICY
- Freeze wage and salary tax.
- Discontinue all unwarranted government intervention in economic activity such as job creation programmes.
- Monitor schools carefully to make sure the quality of education available to the poor does not fall.
- Set a limit on the proportion of total expenditure which State funded schools can receive from other sources.
- Set up a national fund to evenly distribute any funds people wish to give to education.
- Pay all students over 18 an allowance equivalent to the restored unemployment benefit.
- Not increase the funding of Tertiary Education institutions.
- Continue the student loan system but monitor the repayment system and ensure it is not too great a burden on graduates.
- Consult with students and staff about changes to the eligibility for fees subsidies.
- Monitor the health system to make sure the standard of health care available to the poorest is maintained.
- Ensure that all our elderly can finish their lives in dignity.
- Fulfill justifiable expectations with regard to retirement pensions.
- Restore benefits to livable levels and increase the income allowed before abatement starts.
IF AND ONLY IF POLICY
- Phase out any unnecessary government provision of goods and services.
- Phase out wage and salary taxes.
