- Universal Declaration of Human Rights
On December 10-the 50th anniversary of the UDHR-men, women, boys and girls will come together in cities across America to discuss the importance of the Declaration to their own communities and to the larger world. We hope you will participate - consider pressing local, national and international issues, engage in educational and cultural programs that explore the principles of the Declaration, and most importantly, take specific action to strengthen respect for human rights at home and abroad. Find out here how your voice-or your silence-will matter.
- Prince William County Government's Home Page offers information on for citizens and newcomers in many categories, including Government & General Information, Home & Community, Newcomer's Guide, Public Libraries & Education, Human Services, Public Safety & Courts, Parks, Recreation, Sports & Entertainment, Business & Economic Development.

- "The Hotlist - Global Issues That Affect Almost Everyone" offers public forums and links to background articles on the environment, human rights, and trade. Each major category contains discussion and points to resources on hot topics in the evening news, such as global warming, genetic engineering, human rights, and the arms trade. The site reflects genuine concern about physical and social forces that shape our world and our future. Some may fault it for not taking a stand on the issues it covers but, as a gateway, that is not its purpose. The summaries are modest but admirably well-balanced, the links well chosen and diverse.

- Day in, day out, the United Nations and its family of organizations work together and individually to protect human rights, help protect the environment, fight epidemics, famine, and poverty. Additionaly, the UN assistes refugees and helps improve telecommunication, delivers food aid, combats disease and helps expand food production, makes loans to developing countries and helps stabilize financial markets. Through defining standards for safe and efficient transport by air and sea, ensuring respect for intellectual property rights and allocation of radio frequencies, the UN's work has a long-term impact on the quality of our lives.
