Assunto: Memorandum sobre a Guiné-Bissau

Na sequência de posições expressas por algumas instituições internacionais e europeias sobre os acontecimentos recentes na Guiné-Bissau e que põem em perigo a ajuda àquele país, acordada na Mesa Redonda de Genève, tomámos a iniciativa de elaborar um Memorandum informativo que hoje enviamos àquelas instituições.

É nossa expectativa de que o referido Memorandum possa de algum modo contribuir para uma correcta actualização da informação que facilite a normalização das relações dos parceiros internacionais com a Guiné-Bissau e não penalize mais o seu povo.

Subject: Memorandum on Guinea-Bissau

On June 98 an important number of NGOs from Guinea-Bissau and their European NGOs partners created an informal Network on Solidarity with the People of Guinea-Bissau. In that framework, some humanitarian and information activities have been being developed either inside or outside Guinea-Bissau. At the end of last April, the Solidarity Network organised the 3rd NGOs European Meeting to prepare their participation in the rehabilitation of the country.

After the events of 7th May 99 in Bissau, some international organisations and countries produced public statements condemning those events, compromising the continuation of the aid programs.

Taking in account the terrible consequences of those possible measures for the humanitarian situation and for the stabilisation of the country, we send, attached, a Memorandum on the developments of the last 30 days, hoping that it could be useful for up-dating information on Guinea-Bissau.
