The first On Line edition of the Anglo Quebecer espoused the potential for violence and vandalism the evening of the St. Jean Baptiste Day Parade. It urged readers to contact City of Montreal officials in an effort to Stop the Evening Parade, and our site was even written up in a local weekly paper. The response from readers across Canada, many of whom sent us Emails, was quite encouraging. Were our fears unfounded? Undoubtedly, no. The 600 Montreal police officers who were on duty that night made a remarkable effort to keep the crowd under control and they should be graciously applauded. The Merchant Association of Old Montreal also took prudent measures by covering windows and meeting with police and each other prior to that night.
