  • SATALITE TV IN YOUR CARAVAN

  • You don’t have to be without tv whilst on holiday in Europe just take your satellite system with you as
  • I do its not as difficult as you may think .The only extra things that you will need are a second hand dish
  • you can pick them up for around £10 and a compass just take the reciever/decoder from the house.I took
  • my caravan portable tv home and tuned channel one to the satellite system in the house, and it was then set
  • up to use anywhere. So when you go away you just take the decoder/reciever and couple it to the tv the way
  • you would at home.Turn your receiver to the news channel that's a good strong signal turn your tv to channel
  • one, you are now ready to point your dish. Get out your compass and establish what direction south is.The
  • satellite signal is 15 degrees south east ,that's a bit to the left of south and depending where you are you will
  • need to move it up and down slightly the picture will be instant but better quality can be achieved by minute
  • tweaks of the dish or most receivers will allow you to alter the LNB settings on your remote control. The
  • advantages of using satellite is obvious to those who subscribe to sky,but remember even if you do not there
  • are a number of channels you can get totally free of charge for example Eurosport ,CNN News
  • Sky have now stopped their transmissions on the analog astra satellite however I can't see them leaving a
  • satalite up there with no one using it so I will update this page when I come back after my May holls in
  •  France .In the mean time does anyone know of a better way to get tv abroad send me a e-mail at
  •  caravanning4u@yahoo.com
  • Astra is still used by many European stations

TV ABROAD

  • A television purchased for UK use will not function abroad unless you are off to Gambia or a few other
  • countries using the same PAL 1 system! If you require a television that will receive foreign transmissions
  • whilst on holiday, you need a multi-standard set.France, Luxembourg and Monaco use a different system to
  • the rest of Western Europe .Make sure your set offers SECAM L if you wish to pick up French transmissions
  • Luxembourgh uses PAL B.G and SECAM L and Monaco uses PAL G and SECAM L .Eastern Europe
  • and some African countries use SECAM D/K,parts of the Middle East and most north African countries use
  • SECAM B/G and the most widely used system in Western Europe and other countries is PAL B/G, North
  • America uses an entirely different system (NTSC 3.58) South America uses PAL system N and PAL system M
  • Aerial Techniques can supply these sets to special order Telephone 01202 423555 .Parts of the coast between
  • Brittany and Normandy may be able to pick up UK transmissions from the Channel Islands ,but don’t count on it.
